Lakers defense is plaing horribly. I saw the half-time score and I think it was 62-48 Wolves. In L.A., its a delayed broadcast so I aint gonna look at the score no more. I'm still watching the 2nd quarter. Did you guys see that Kobe play on Garnett?? that was nice... If only he was taller so he can provide the lakers with some interior defense.

Looks like Cassell, Garnett, and Sprewell are just too much for Kobe and Payton. The score right now is 62-82 T-Wolves in the 3rd Q... Cassell, Garnett, and Sprewell all have over 20 and Spree leads them with 24. Garnett also hhas 15 rebounds to lead the game. Kobe has 19 points 9 rebounds and 2 ast and is currently sitting out at the end of the 3rd Q.

Cuz last time the Knicks game came on and it was on NBA TV i don't think i got it (no 100% since I was at my friends) But thanks for remindin me. My bad tho lol
Can't believe I'm saying this about one of my all time favourite point guards but Gary Payton looks out of his depth,in the past few weeks he looks like a has-been.Which I don't really expect to change much throughout the season. Laker fans have to be happy with the play of Brian Cook..He is Lakers power forward of the future. If only Jackson played him more.
Brian Cook's needs some arch on his shot. NBA.com Game Recap ...MuchGame, i know you wanna click on that.

It's almost like he's a regular point guard out there, which basically puts Kobe out there by himself like last year. Offense isn't a problem yet, he hasn't adjusted to this kind of situation yet, after playing with Shaq and Malone with Kobe all together, because it was much easier then. But he just doesn't look like "The Glove" anymore. Not that I think he should be at his same level, but his defense took a hit. And no, I'm not saying this because a great point guard in Cassell took him to school tonight, I'm saying this because of the past few games. And yes, I am very excited about Brian Cook. He looked sort of confused and lost last game, but today he made a great improvement. This adds another lost to the column. As far a recap of the game goes, I'll say it simple, we cannot beat good teams without Shaq. If we lose, it's going to be for the same reason, lack of rebounding, lack of offense, lack of defense. I am pleased by Rush stepping it up though, he looks like a guy who could bring some solid scoring in more time. If George keeps up his bad play, you may see his minutes take a hit, I would like to see Rush in there more after tonight.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Purple N Gold:</div><div class="quote_post"> we cannot beat good teams without Shaq. </div> I see your point, however it is the role players that suck. None of our role players have been producing lately, and that is not Kobe or Payton's fault.
I think Cook and Sampson should be out there more. Grant isn't giving the lakers anything, and Slava is way too soft to play significant minutes. I mean, the lakers are losing mostly because of their interior defense. And you guys are talking about GP's defense. Forget Cassell, Keith McCloud (sp?) is taking him to the hole...
Payton is what...35 years old? He isn't the Glove anymore. He is a decent defender that uses his veteran smarts to keep up. But he got burned tonight, primarily because we had no backline defense.. ARGH!
Tonight showed just how shallow the Lakers are as a basketball team. To me the primary reason for this is when the stars are there, Jackson gives little to no time to his role players, yet at the moment he is being forced to use them and they aren't game ready.

And the lose to Dallas after Payton was ejected was the first example. I'm glad they lost.

It's also the fact that these bench players are not experianced enough to log in big minutes and produce. Of course there is a reason for bringing in all the stars, to win games, and if one of them isn't here they will greatly be missed. Actually, Jackson gives solid time to his role players. Fisher gets about 21 minutes a game, Medvedenko 21 as well, Russell 17, Grant 18, Rush gets 10 which is pretty low, but he tends to make a lot of mistakes and takes low % shots, but I do have to admitt he's good for a time like this where we have no scoring help anywhere else besides Kobe. But when Jackson is willing to give you an oppourtunity to make something happen, and still don't take advantage of it, that's when it's all bad. When your in the NBA, you have to be 'game ready' at all times rather if you play 5 minutes a game or 35 minutes a game. That is also a wierd statement to say just after 2 games of no Shaq, because if you noticed, the last 2 games we have been dominated inside by 2 of the best fowards in the league, who's going to be scared of Medvedenko or Horace Grant? You need a complete team to win games, and right now were nothing close to a complete team. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">I've been saying that they were a shallow team since I got here. You can be a shallow team if your starting lineup is filled with stars, of course if one of them is out, then that could throw your whole game plan out the window, especially if it was Kobe or Shaq.

Look at his game log, he never shoots at a high %. If you see him play a lot you'll understand what I mean...but he takes way too many shots and trys to take the game into his own hands. IMO, I don't like his game, other may have different opinions, but I think he just stepped up tonight out of luck. Not much more than that.

I agree that he may take some forced shots, and to be honest I don't love him that much. But Phil has no choice, George has played horrible these past few games, you just don't know man. Rush came in today and helped on the offensive side, no one else is scoring on that court besides Kobe, so I am happy Rush hit some shots this game. Medvedenko is too soft to bang in the inside and put up consistent numbers, especially on the offensive side.
You just proved my point. The Lakers rely on four players, much like the Magic rely on T-Mac, only on a larger scale. Sure, it'll win you games, but you won't win a championship that way. The Lakers will not win this year. Mark my text.

The spurs rely on one guy and I would say they were pretty sucessful last year. The Kings are probably the deepest team and they haven't won squat yet...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">The Lakers will not win this year. Mark my text.</div> Hmmmm...30 games through the season, not even half way yet, and you've already put them out of the way saying they cannot win it, and the funny thing is, you didn't list any reasons why. Don't come into the Laker forum to hate, this is a GAME RECAP, not let's not talk about the Lakers in general topic, if your going to post here, at least post something worth reading. Magic Johnson was on the Best Damn Sports Show a while back and even said himself, the Lakers won't start playing great basketball until January, of course that has all changed due to injuries. But as soon as were healthy and the Lakers get back on track, watch out. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">You just proved my point. The Lakers rely on four players. Sure, it'll win you games, but you won't win a championship that way. </div> Get your facts straight, that line made no sense at all. Like notMuchgame stated, Lakers relied on 2 players and pulled off a 3peat. This is nothing, Lakers know when to step it up and play some real ball, and it has been that way for years. You can go on all day and say were not going to win the championship because were struggling, they've been through these kinds of losing streaks before and know how to deal with them.
Spurs are led. The three peat Lakers were led. This year's Lakers are not led, but rely. There's a difference. If there ever was a time I truly enjoyed Lakers play, it'd be during the second and third championship runs. I enjoy seeing the duo lead the team. They had good starters, two greats, and a strong bench - and to me, a strong bench is very, very important. But what does the bench this year produce? (other than Slava) Nothing. They barely get to play... even those that were once starters. Basically, what I'm getting at is the Lakers seem to have more troublee playing through injury than any other [high caliber] team in the NBA, and comboed with their reliance upon their Big Four, it could still be great, but more likely than not, it could become a very ugly picture for them. And spare me your lecturing. I still pertain to the current topic on hand, and as long as I do, I'll post whatever I feel like posting. I began with speaking on the loss (although I admit, it was provocative), and it was taken and dragged out, so it becomes a debate. And on another note, The Best Damn Sports Show Period is a great show. Really is what the name implies.
