I was hanging out with some friends at Damon's sports bar and the Suns/Kings game was on. A few of my friends commented how the NBA game is too slow and thats why dont even bother watching/following it on their own time. They said there are too many old people in the league which slows down the pace of the game. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on whether the tempo of the game is too slow or whether it's perfectly fine as it is. I personally think there's a lot more offensive/defensive balance in the league since they implemented some rule changes in the 2001-2002 season.
tell your friends to watch a Kings Mavs game. Vlade is old but he doesn't slow them down. I admit that many of the teams play excessively slow, but they should focus on an uptempo team.
The game is slower, but thats due to more intelligent defenses and the fact that players can no longer shoot effectively.

There is now too much perimeter game being played. Ball just passed around the perimeter until someone finally throws up a 3.

Decreasing the shot clock from 24 to 20 seconds would definitely increase the tempo and pace of the game.
Games in the East are slow, but I think that the West really picks it up and can be entertaining in the regular season. Most games really aren't fast paced until the playoffs. And even then games in the East are still slow. Accord had a good idea to shorten the shot clock. Too many times the players just stand around and dribble, and that isn't fun for anyone to watch.
Zone Defense is what's really slowing down the NBA right now. I think they should take it out, it's just messing up the game. Scoring is goin way down. With Zone D, many teams can't ever get the ball down low. They just try and work a little magic at the 3 point line, if that doesn't work they pass to someone else...on the 3 point line. They do the same thing, but eventually shoot when the shoot clock gets down.
Ask your friends if they have seen a Kings/Mavs game before? If they think those games are boring then there is no hope for them....haha
