<div class="quote_poster">Quoting starman85:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree that Sheed is a great post defender. I believe he passed Sam Perkins as the alltime blocks leader at Carolina.

But they need a center, not another forward, whatever they do. Antoine Walker and Dirk can rebound, Dirk and Bradley can block shots, so could Raef when he was there. That's not what they need, not just those components. The Mavericks need a player who will CLOG the middle, a big man. Sheed is no clogger, neither is Bradley, who could hardly clog a drainpipe let alone the lane on an NBA court.

That's why the Mavs wanted Dampier when dealing with the Warriors, why they are interested in Zydrunas Ilguaskas, and Theo Ratliffe, and Jamaal Magloire, and any number of guys who are BIG.

Until they get a deal where they get that big player without having to give up too much in return(read: not anymore than Jamison and a backup guard or two), the Mavs aren't gonna budge.</div>

I couldn't have said it better myself, also think of it this way, what more offense would Dallas need? All Sheed would have to offer was his brute strength as compensation. Also your team needs to step up and be great at steals again since you really don't have any great or decent legitimate centers.

nah brah..it's over..the owner wants to keep 'Sheed....

The Dallas Mavericks had to settle for a road victory Saturday night. It was not a Winner Gets Wallace night ... largely because of the low-profile billionaire in attendance at Portland's Rose Garden.

Just when it seemed Portland was prepared to make the most anticipated move of the NBA's trading season by dealing Rasheed Wallace away, Blazers owner Paul Allen -- not Dallas counterpart Mark Cuban -- had the biggest influence on Saturday's trade talks between the clubs. Sources close to the discussions told ESPN.com that, at Allen's insistence, the Trail Blazers suddenly prefer to keep Wallace.

good deal for the mavs i think. they'd be crazy to get rid of jamison's numbers for rasheed's attitude. jamison is putting up almost the same kind of numbers that rasheed is this season, and thats comming off the bench. i think the mavs would be crazy to pull the trigger on this deal

Wallace would instantly be the Mavs best defender.

hmmm...yea, but at what expense though? they'd gain a post defender, but throw a monkey wrench into the team chemistry

DJ- I agree. But I think the Mavs are ready and willing to take that risk. This team has not panned out thus far and they are getting desperate.

Saying that Wallace would be the best Mav defender is not saying much, I am unimpressed with his defensive efforts.

It's time for the Mavs and Blazers to do something, neither are playing up to their full potential, esp. Portland.

Although the Blazers owner Allen said he wanted to keep Wallace, I wouldn't be surprised if the trade rumors between Wallace and Jamison started back up again. There have been many times owners or GMs said they wanted to keep players/coaches, but whenever they say that it seems like something happens. For example the Thomas situation with Chaney, Thomas claimed he was going to stick with Don, but then fired him and replaced him with Wilkens within a week or two.

When he feels like it yes, however most of the time he likes to take the Antonie Walker approach.

If Dallas are going to trade Jamison It has to be for a player who plays in the post all the time, not just when he feels like it.

Kelvin Cato is who they should target.
