It turns out that Patrick Ewing is not happy being an assistant coach in Houston and he wants to become a head coach. It is highly unlikely that he will return to New York and it is very likely that if he does infact become a head coach, he will go to a city with a struggling franchise, and what better place than Atlanta? He will be able to fill the seats, although probably just for a month or so and then the novelty factor will wear off, but aside from that if anyone is going to be able to turn the Hawks franchise around it's going to be him. I heard about this on ESPNews last night and they said he was most likely going to be headed to a struggling east team like the Hawks or Magic, he would definitely have more success with the Magic though. What's your take on this?
Magic, no. I have just not heard much about Ewing and his ability to coach, a shot with the Hawks though, hell, why not?

Don't get me wrong because Pat is my all time favorite player....but he wont be a head coach in the nba anytime soon if ever....hes got a good deal in houston coaching yao...plus there are coaches out there who would love to coach the magic or hawks.....I think those teams should look into Mike Fratello and George Karl...they were both excellent coaches!

I think Pat has shown, in Washington and Houston, that he may be able to do a decent job working with a team's big men. He's also worked under quite a few great head coaches(John Thompson, Hubie Brown, Rick Pitino, Pat Riley, Don Nelson, Jeff Van Gundy, Paul Westphal, Doc Rivers, Doug Collins), and perhaps some of their style has rubbed off on him over the years. I think if he did get a job, Orlando would be more likely, just because he played there and didn't play in Atlanta, so the management/ownership knows him. Plus, Atlanta may be looking at either Fratello to return, or former player Rivers to get a shot at their top job. Either guy is a more likely fit that Ewing. As for George Karl, yes, he is a good coach. He shouldn't be known for his last few unsuccessful years in Milwaukee(if they are to be considered unsuccessful - he DID make the playoffs almost every year). He had great success in Seattle and in Golden State before that - he was the coach of the famous Run TMC teams that had Don Nelson as a GM. I think he'll coach again, and wouldn't be surprised if he came to a young, impressionable team, perhaps the Bobcats after a year or two of B Squared pulling two jobs.
I dont think he'd make a good coach. I think he has it good in Houston...what's there to be unhappy about?? And I also think that Terry Stotts and anyone out there right now are better coaches than Ewing...his job is to help teach Yao Ming, and I have not seen very much improvement in Yao at all...

no, no, no, Ewing would make for a disasterous coach. I think he should stay in Houston as Yao's mentor. And another thing is, whats up with all these coaching changes as of late. Are there children running these teams or what? If Atlanta makes another coaching change next year then the owner should fire the GM. If the GM is the owner then Stern should fire him.
