I don't know if anyone else noticed this but alot of people hate or don't approve of the few female refs in the NBA. I was at a game a while back and the dude above said some rude stuff when the female ref made a bad call and now I heard something hatefull towards the female refs. Do you think they should ref in the NBA. I do.

why not? i see nothing wrong with it. there are female out there that know the game as well, if not better than some men do! So i see no reason why they shouldn't. Its just gonna take some getting used to.

I think there is only one female ref in the league rite now, Violet Palmer (I think that's her name). There were originally two, but the other one got fired due to poor performance a couple of years back...

As far as whether women should ref men's games, I don't see why not. If they can prove that they can handle it, then there isn't a problem...

I don't think that the ignorance of one fan(or probably many fans througout the league) should impact equal employment in the NBA. If a woman can ref as well as the men in the industry, she should definitely get the job. There's no aspect of reffing that makes it inappropriate for a female to be involved.

Personally, I think Violet Palmer is a great ref. She probably faces a lot of death threats every game but she is not afraid to make the call that goes against the home team.

    Women should ref.

I agree with that statement if it is referring to Basketball, and not all sports. Some sports (like football), having a female ref would perhaps be inappropriate. In those instances, there is a physicallity difference that could potientially be harmful to the female ref and/or the quality of the officiating.

When dealing with equal opportunity employment, no it should not. But generally if fans don't like what they are seeing, the league would be willing to make a chance, no matter how ignorant the fans are being. The NBA is a business.

Violet Palmer reffed tonights Mav's Pistons game, and she did great. She's a pretty good ref in my opinion.

That's why she's the only female ref in the NBA.

I abosolutely think that female refs should be respected in the league. some people just think the aspect of women being involved in sports is wrong

there will always be ignorant rednecks who think women have no place as a ref, but aside from that, if they got the skillz, there is no reason they shouldnt be in there.

Well, this is JustBBall...But I agree that some sports, it would be inapproprate, like football or boxing.

It IS a business, but are fans really gonna stop attending games because a woman is reffing? No. In most cases, they won't know until after they buy a ticket, and they'll figure that the odds are she won't be at the next game anyway. I think the ignorance of ignorant fans(although I'm fairly ignorant on how their minds work) will extend only to jeers of the ref in question, not to entire boycotts of games. So from a business standpoint, the league doesn't really lose anything.
