...what woulda happened if the trade to send Iverson to the Pistons, prior to the 2000 season, went thru? Where would both franchises be today? Sixers fans have Geiger to thank for it not happening, but what if it did? Would the Pistons be in the position they are? Would Larry Brown still be with Philly? Iverson seems like a good fit for Detroit, the type of player they like...gritty and tough and plays hard the whole game so I think he woulda fit in nicely but would they have been as successful the last couple years?
This trade was going to happen but Matt Geiger messed the whole deal up to so it broke down.I love AI and what he brings to his team but he isn't the kind of player Pistons need.He is a superstar but Pistons love to share the ball, get everyone involved.Everyone knows their role and therefore there is no one superstar who takes all the shots. The amount of shots taken is very well balenced.Iverson is a player who needs his shots to be as great as he is.By getting his team into the flow of the offense, creating double teams which gives better chances for the Sixers shooters to produce. That is how I view it now, however at the same time it may of worked out differently.Grant Hill was one of the best 5 players in the NBA or would of been today if he kept up his all-round numbers. If Sixers had pulled off that trade they would be stuck with Grant's contract as he later got injuried as you all know.Along with the fact Sixers might well of been fighting for the top pick.while Pistons would be competing for a high seed. However if that deal had gone down then Chucky Atkins and likely Ben Wallace wouldn't be on the Pistons roster.Although Ben did say he was going to sign in Detroit when he became a free-agent.
Sure thing. Larry Brown demanded to Pat Croce that Iverson be traded because he simply couldn't work with him anymore. The Sixers found a taker in Detroit. Iverson and Geiger were to be sent to Motor City, but it was contingent on Geiger waiving a 15% trade kicker. Geiger didn't,and the trade didn't happen. If he had,Iverson would have been a Piston.
