I think it would be a good idea for us to have our own thread of amateur scouting reports for this upcoming draft. Hopefully, if this catches on and everyone contributes some, we could have a great collection to refer to come draft day. Just post a player (or players) that you have some expertise on. That means that you have to have seen him play with your own eyes (on tv of course) more than just a couple of times. This is very important because that way, it ensures credibility and accuracy to what is posted. I don?t want to see a bunch of post about Pavel, because I know none of you guys have actually seen him play?you know what I?m saying? Please try to remove any bias views, and give your own analysis. Don?t plagiarize or give any second-hand opinions. That defeats the whole purpose?you don?t have to write an essay, just enough to make us understand? Post a player that is likely to declare this year. If someone already did that player, you could still repeat. Everyone has their own views and all should be shared. Bold the name of the player so that it can be easier to decipher whether a post is a report, or a comment. Also, try to follow the same format so that it will be easier to read _______________________________________________ I?ll go first Name: Darius Rice School: University of Miami Height: 6-10 Weight: 222 NBA Pos: SF Strengths: Rice is tall with very long arms. He?s very athletic and moves very well for his size. These things give him the potential to be a good defender. Super Pippen maybe? well, probably not . He?s also a very good shooter with pretty good range. He can pretty much shoot over anybody with his height and hops. From what I?ve seen, he?s got clutch and isn?t afraid to take big shots. In short, he?s a great scorer. Also, he?s the nephew of Jerry Rice so he?s got the blood? Weaknesses: He?s terribly soft at 6?10?. Primarily a perimeter player so he doesn?t take full advantage of his height. Haven?t seen a post up game from him either, probably because of his thin stature. Doesn?t have much handles, and rarely drives to the basket. He doesn't change directions that well. More of a catch and shoot player so he needs a good setup man. Very streaky and questionable shot selection?decent rebounder but not great despite being so long. NBA Comparison: Eddie Robinson w/ three pt. range Projection as a Pro: I think he?ll get drafted 15-20. He?ll be a good pro, but not great. Definitely an NBA starter down the line?
Strengths: He's a solid defender at 6'10" with his long arms, he forces players to change their shots. He's a mismatch problem for almost every one, granted he has no post game. if you put on the court with the right people, and he's impossible to guard Weaknesses: he lacks any sort of power, although he has added bulk from his stand sophomore year, he can't create his own shot so he definately will be stuck in more of 2, 3, or 4 pending the matchups, although i doubt he'll be a 4 until his 3rd or 4th year. NBA Comparison: a more atheletic glenn rice, minus the post up game
this sounds like a good idea...each poster should look up or scout a certain player who has great NBA potential and do a thorough examination on them...
Rice's biggest weakness by far is how he has not developed an inside game. He is 6-10 and incredibly gifted but there is a reason that he has pulled out of the draft the last couple years. In Europe a guy who is 6-10 and can shoot like Rice is a lottery pick, but for as a senior playing NCAA ball in the states, where big men and post play are preached, nurtured and love, his lack of ability or will to mix it up inside is a bad sign. Especially since he has not improved his game any this year. His scoring and shooting numbers are down a bit and he hasn't really dominated a game yet this year. His natural talents get him into the first round but probably in the 20's although mid-teens would be possible if he looks good in Chicago. Worst Case Scenario- Bust Best Case Scenario- Tim Thomas/Tayshaun Prince.
