<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Cavaliers' offense is likely to always run through LeBron James. But how much longer will the rookie guard be initiating it? Coach Paul Silas said Sunday that he sees James eventually being moved from point guard to shooting guard once the Cavaliers find an ``explosive'' ball handler, one capable of getting them into their offense with ease. Silas said that James' ball-handling skills have improved, but that he's not certain the 6-foot-8, 240-pounder will become a fluid point guard the likes of Jason Kidd. ``Long term, I don't see (James) with the ball,'' Silas said. ``I see him more like a Michael Jordan playing off the ball. ``Long term, we have to maybe look at someone to do that, to get another point guard. I'd like to have (James) off the ball more.'' Silas plans no immediate lineup changes as the Cavaliers (11-25) head west for four games, starting tonight in Los Angeles against the Lakers. The 19-year-old James has started at point guard all season. His pro debut has been widely regarded as successful, as he ranks 17th in scoring (19.9 ppg) and 10th in assists (6.2). James also is fourth in turnovers (3.9), and opposing defenses have made a concerted effort to pressure him as he brings the ball up the court. The Cavaliers have had difficulty getting into their offense and often find themselves settling for low-percentage shots to avoid 24-second violations. The Cavaliers are 18th in scoring with a 90.3 average. ``We have to execute the offense better,'' James said. ``There are times when we are not getting into our offense until we have five seconds left and that causes bad shots.''</div> Full Story
What do you think about this KJ? I think that instead of searching for an "explosive ball handler," they should search for a true shooting guard. With James playing at point, it disruptes the opposing team's defence as they have to alter their matchups in order to allow a sizeable player to guard him. I say let James develop as a point guard, before switching his position.
Lebron James will not reach his full potential until he switches to the off guard position. The point guard slot is the hardest to develope into. You cant develope into a point guard on the NBA level if you never played that spot on a consistent bases before you got their. And I think playing point guard, is going to hold Lebron & the Cavs back. Lebron has excellent play making skills but they would be even better playing along side a natural point. Plus every great scorer needs to have those moments where they take over the game purely on their scoring ability along. But Lebron want really be able to this because hell be to worried about getting his teamates involved. Jordan didnt take that next step until he had pippen by his side.because when Jordan was going off for 50 plus, he had pippen to keep everyone else on the team involved in the game. So Lebron going to need to play along side a natural point to take alot of pressure off of him. I think an Eric Snow type of point guard would be prefect for Lebron. The trouble for the Cavs is trying to find that type of guard. I dont think their will be one in this years draft.
I saw this coming by watching all the games this year. LeBron James is a scorer. No one would have thought that he would have been a scorer at this stage already. The Cavs struggle late in games and James is put in a tough position. Does he try and score? Or does he try and help someone else score? Tough spot for any rookie to be in really, this is why Carmelo Anthony has had a much easier job, all the Nuggets want him to do is take it to the basket every time he touches the basketball. The Heat were in a situation like this with Dwyane Wade, and Stan Van Gundy quickly reduced Wade's time at the point position. After that move, Wade went on and had an awesome December scoring 19 points a game while still getting over 4 assists and 4 boards a contest. LeBron James is a freak, he is our scorer. Coach Silas knows that LeBron can take anybody any time if he would just be more assertive. James will still get his assists without question, but this guy can put up over 20 points per ball game this season, and because of that he must be our go to guy, because the Cavaliers have been struggling to find their offense.
Yep, LeBron is an scorer, lets use him at SG or SF instead of PG and then use Dajuan Wagner or Kevin Ollie as PG or SG! I think we'll get better this way!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DajuanWagner#2:</div><div class="quote_post">Yep, LeBron is an scorer, lets use him at SG or SF instead of PG and then use Dajuan Wagner or Kevin Ollie as PG or SG! Ollie looks to be the man now, and I know the Cavaliers are not sold on him being our guy 24/7.
Earl Watson is the player the Cavs should be focused on.Frank Williams is another option they should look at.Frank is a very steady point guard who has good playmaking abilities. He is also one of those guards who can shoot the ball from the outside, attack the rim and the most important factor is his age.Very young player with tons of upside. That is one way of moving Lebron to SG which will fit the Cavs offense much better. Kedrick has good talent but is not starting quailty (Not yet anyway) get Lebron to be dangerous by moving off the ball while still finding chances to find his team-mates.If I was Paxson I would do the best I can to make a trade for Frank Williams or Earl Watson. You should expect an improvement on offense and defense if either player landed in Cleveland Thats my view on this subject.
Ollie is going to be taking the snaps until a trade happens. I personally hope the Atlanta deal is still up for grabs. Jason Terry would be everything the Cavs can ask for. He would be the main ball handler and the 2nd scoring option.

I agree allnet, Terry would not be my point guard, all I would want him doing is getting open to shoot.

But he still has a long way to go before he is an everyday starting point. And the Cavs might be looking for a quick fix. I think Frank is a choice they make if they are willing to keep Ollie as an insurance policy to allow frank to grow. But I think you brought up an interesting name in Earl Watson. He seems to run a good offense down there in memphis & he is young. So him a lebron could be together for a long time. I just wonder if the Grizz are willing to let him go. Jason Williams is very iffy at times. Earl seems to fit right in everytime he is asked to start or play major minutes. I dont think the Grizz are willing to give that up.
We need Williams, He could be a point man of the future for us, only problem is that Thomas won't do it for just Miles. I say we give them a 1st round pick with Miles, and they give us Williams and cash so we can resign Eric Williams. Frank can do everything we need him to, pass, dribble, and occasionally score. Come on Paxson, please just get this deal done!
1st round pick and Miles? Thomas would be a moron to reject that deal, like we would be a moron to make that offer.
I think they could get away with Miles for Watson straight up...Jerry West likes guys with athleticism and Watson isn't happy in Memphis right now. I agree with Allnet, he would be a great compliment to James.
I think I'd rather have LeBron playing at Small Forward than either Guard position. He could still play his inside and outside games, but he could also rack up more rebounds on the inside.

Put some shooters around him and some people that can run and finish.....scary.
Lebron will play the 3... just think how much he will school slower big guys! Look what he is doing with the number 1's in the league! Imagine the 3's The Cavs will get a real 1 in the draft next year ROME Wasnt Built in a Day!
Yeah KJ, you're right about him not being ideal. He has the passing skills and is an unselfish baller but he can do that on any other position anyway. His handles are good enough for SF or SG. But the thing is, wasn't he raised a PG? I never really watched him in HS so maybe you could tell me as to whether he played like one. I agree with you and Crossover.
