uggets to target Kenyon Martin and Brent Barry

    In the off-season

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A source close to the situation said Sunday that two players high on the team's list of free-agent candidates for next summer are Seattle shooting guard Brent Barry and New Jersey power forward Kenyon Martin. The Nuggets already have Brent's brother Jon, and he said he would love to see the team go after Brent.

Brent, 32, is making $5.4 million in the final year of a six-year, $27 million contract. The 6-foot-6 Brent, averaging 11.0 points and 5.3 assists, also can play point guard.

The Nuggets, who could have as much as $22 million of salary-cap room, have an interest in a big, versatile guard. They also will be looking for a top big man, a role the 6-9 Martin could fill.

Martin, averaging 17.2 points and 9.3 rounds while making $5.13 million, will be a restricted free agent. The Nets balked last summer when Martin sought a contract extension for the maximum, so it's possible the Nuggets could make Martin an offer New Jersey won't match or get the Nets to agree to a sign and trade.

I have always said Martin would be a great 2nd option to a superstar scorer/slasher.That Nuggets team could be straight up scary with Martin teaming up with Nene and Carmelo in the frontcourt.

Will be scary in Denver next season people, they will get at least one of the top free agents out there. Martin would be a major landing.

Denver is a great place to play for. The fans there will match K-Mart's intensity. But somehow I don't see K-Mart signing up with Denver. I'm betting (os should I say hoping) that they be contented with developing Nene and Melo and go look for a guard instead. [IMG]

No way. Andre Miller, Voshon Lenard, and Earl Boykins are more than good enough at guard. Plus, wait until Skita, and Fransisco Elson get developed. This is a team to be wreckoned with in a few years. And to perform against West powerhouses with such a small lineup like they have is simply amazing.

    Finally!

Someone gives respect to the Nuggets guards for their amazing play.

If this was PTI and I was Max Kellerman, I would award you 5 points :bigthumbu

cArMeLo15,I agree with you somewhat. However I don't agree you saying those guards are more than good enough.Miller is a very good point guard,Boykins is a spark off the bench. However Vo Lenard is not starter quailty for a top playoff team.Brent Barry is one of the most all-rounded players in the NBA.Just ask Sonic fans how important he is to their success. He can give any team 12,5 and 5.Martin has been putting up all-star numbers this season. He is also a young guy with good upside still. If Nuggets manage to pull both of these moves off in the off-season not only will they be set for at least the next 6/7 seasons, they would also be a top 5 team in the western conference straight away.
