The offensive charge is a defensive art that only a few players can master. I think it is so important for taking posessions away that it should be included as a statistic along with other defensive stats such as blocks and steals because that is essentially what you are doing, you are stealing a posession away from the other team. Anyone else?
Yes i agree, That is a pretty good Idea, I mean i take a charge a game, And im just 16 playing for a club team in England, But nothing ever gets called for it, Meaning it doesnt go down as a defensive stop, I think this is a good idea, I really like that!!
I would imagine that its kept track of, but you just rarely see it posted anywhere. Since we are talking about stats, why doesn't a player get an assist if he makes a pass to a guy who gets fouled taking a shot/dunk and goes to the foul line and hits a free throw?
I've always thought it should be. It's most daring play in the game, risking your body with a 250 pounds guy chargin right at you. It takes alot of speed to get there to, and heart to keep your place. Defintally needs to be counted.
Charges taken should definitely be included in a player's stats, because it shows a players hustle, and willingness to give up your body in a team effort
Why? It'd just be another column on a website or a piece of paper. Players that are known to take charges are well known enough for it to not need something that reminds everyone. It's really pointless.
While you could say that counting charges would help give credit to the players who regularly do it, you have to look at the other side as well. The league is already filled with a lot of floppers (ahem, Vlade) who get unfair calls because of rules and restrictions like the arc under the basket. Counting charges as a stat category would only encourage more players to flop, leading to an uglier game, where defense and putting the body on the line would be for a selfish purpose, like getting a bonus on the contract because you drew a certain number of charges.
