This is an article I found in the China Daily newspaper from August of last year that says the Golden State Warriors will go all out in pursuit of bringing Houston center Yao Ming to the bay area in 2006. All of the sudden, the Warriors offseason salary purge is beginning to make a lot more sense....

    Warriors want Yao Ming

Yao-mazing. I'm not too surprised. The Warriors thought that they'd get the 1st pick in 02, and Yao was receptive to coming to the Bay area because of its large asian population.

Wonder how Houston takes this. I doubt they'll offer anything less than the max for him, so it'll be hard to wrest Yao away from them.

Yeah. I think that GS will also be able to offer Yao the max. I had a question about restricted free agents, anyone feel free to answer. I know that the three-year contracts that rookies sign when they first come into the league can be extended simply if the team picks up the option. Is the player still a restricted free agent, or would he be an unrestricted free agent if his initial contract was extended?

I thought it was the player who had the option whether to extend their contract or not. A team usually throws out an offer and a player decides whether or not to except it. If no offer is made they become an unrestricted free agent. However, if an offer is made and a player rejects it, I believe the player then becomes a restricted free agent.

Yao a Warrior! I can't wait. By 2006, he actually MIGHT become the best Center in the league. Go Warriors, 2004, 2006, whatever. Go Warriors, Forever.

There is no way this is happening IMO. Houston is an absolutely great place for Yao and the Rockets have shown that they are willing to make Yao "the Francise" of their organization. Expect Yao to be in a Rocket's uniform for practically his entire career.
