I was just thinking, do players' nicknames today compare with the creative names from the past? I'm not so sure, but I'll submit it for arbitration. 'The Doctor', Larry 'Legend', 'Air', 'Dream', 'Glide', 'Magic', 'Chocalate Thunder', 'the Stilt', 'the Captain', 'the Admiral', 'Big O'. There are others, but those came to mind easily. Today, you have basic sounding names like 'the answer', 'the truth', or you have no nickname at all, which too many stars do these days.

The nicknames now days can't compare to the ones in the old days. The ones you guys have named are pretty much all I can think of. Nicknames today are too boring IMO. I like "The Matrix" though.
Who's the Captain? I always loved the old school nicknames, they were so original and highly impacting. One of the coolest sounding ones was David "Skywalker" Thompson. "Pistol" Pete was pretty decent. Nothing beats the likes of "Air" or "The Admiral" for me though. And of course "Magic" and "Larry Legend" as well as "Doctor" but then I'm being bias probably as they were my favorite players.

I love "The ICEMAN" George Gervin and "Sir Charles" aka "Round Mound of Rebound" In Phoenix announcers call Amare "The Original" a lot... even though it's similar to Dick Van Arsdale's nickname. They've thrown around "Man-child", "Stat", "The Future", and "The Kid" as well. OTHER SUN NICKNAMES: "Thunder" = Dan Majerle "KJ" = Kevin Johnson "TC" = Tom Chambers "Sweet D" = Walter Davis "The Hawk" = Connie Hawkins "The Original Sun" = Dick Van Arsdale "4th Quarter Frank" = Frank Johnson "Socks" = Elliot Perry (they even made a song out of it :mrgreen: S-O-C-K-S)

Somebody give Jason Kidd a nice nickname. I love "The Worm". It clearly describe how he wiggles around to get that rebound. Right now, I like AK47 and the Matrix. I have a question though. Why is Shaq called The Diesel?
