Quote:

The Cavaliers have filed suit against former coach Mike Fratello, seeking relief from paying him all of the $3 million they owe him in deferred compensation from the 1999-2000 season.

According to the complaint for declaratory judgment filed Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, the Cavs owed Fratello $4.8 million for the 1999-2000 season, $1.8 million in salary, which they paid in full, and $3 million in deferred compensation for the 1999-2000 season.

Fratello was fired on June 30, 1999. He went on to earn $446,500 as a broadcaster in 1999-2000. The Cavs contend that because he pursued other opportunities and did not "devote full-time effort and attention, solely and exclusively, to his Cavaliers' coaching duties," they do not have to pay him the full amount of deferred compensation. The Cavs say they should have to pay him only $2,554,500.

The broadcast was on the Sunshine Network, not TNT.

I think that's bull of the Cavs. If he was fired in June of '99, how could he spend the 99-00 season devoted to a job that he technically didn't have?

That's hella sure, but they'd don't need to go screwing Fratello for it. That's HIS cheese, that he earned and deserves to eat.
