    I don't see LeBron winning it ! ..
People say he's saving his best dunks .. but at least he'd show us some flashes now and then if he has many of them

    uhhmm....mmmmk

What do you want the guy to do, rip the backboard down? Not one person has said he would win either.

I can't agree with that. JRich is a great dunker but he only had about two memorable dunks from the past two years. Everything else was a 360 or a windmill, nothing really original.

I may go out on a limb here but I would say all of Vince's dunks in the competition were memorable and original. I can recall them as if they were yesterday because noone had ever done them before ever.

The elbow in the rim? 360 Reverse windmill? windmill from right under the basket? Between the legs bounced up from tracy mcgrady. Even the attempted free throw line two hander.

Those are all original, for most of JRich's dunks they were duplicated except for his last dunks of the comp.

I'm sorry but I'm just not sold on JRich beating Vince, but it would be a great competition between the two

These people should be in this years dunk contest (which I think would be a great one):

    LeBron James
    Steve Francis
    Vince Carter - when he's 100%
    Jason Richardson
    Richard Jefferson
    Desmon Mason
    Tracy McGrady
    Kobe Bryant

If all of those guys go in it - I would never know who would win it!

Yeah too bad we will never see that AK1. The closest we can get to that is mid-late 80's dunk contests.

Back to Vince and J-Rich now...

How can we compare the current 2 time champ with someone that said "no thanks" after just one contest? That is very stubborn and wimpish if you ask me.

You guys give him too much love, what has he done for you lately?

    Carter gets dunked by NBA

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Vince Carter won't be dunking in this season's all-star festivities ? and the decision wasn't up to him. This year, the contest is only open to rookies, sophomores and third-year NBA players. Carter is a fifth-year player.

There has been plenty of speculation about whether Carter, whose performance in the 2000 contest cemented his reputation as one of the league's most explosive talents, would participate in the event.

There were rumours Carter and other players, like Boston Celtics forward Ricky Davis, were interested in appearing in this year's contest, as is rookie phenomenon LeBron James. But Carter, who is the leading vote-getter in the all-star balloting, had played coy and said he hadn't really considered whether or not he would participate.

Now, it appears the decision is out of his hands. A news release from the league last night said four players "currently playing in their first three years in the league" would participate.

"Now I don't have to do it," Carter said after his team lost last night 108-97 to the Timberwolves. "I don't really have a comment, to tell you the truth."</div>

I knew it was going to happen. I really hate that rule, though.

Desmond Mason also won't be participating because of this. The rule sucks. How is that even a good business move?

Both majority of fans and PLAYERS agree Vince is the best Dunker in the league, It's stupid not having him in.

Gee, where have I heard that before? Some dude at JBB said that all year, oh yeah, ME.

This same exact rule was in place last year, shows how much the fans and media paid attention.

that is absolutely retarded? why would the league close the comp to the other players? makes no sense at all. so what if the majority of them dont compete in it? why eliminate the option in case it does happen? for example THIS YEAR more then one player of that nature was interested in entering. now with the league saying its not gonna happen, even if they resind the rule, vince wont want to enter again. this was the only year we had the possibility of a j-rich vs VC, and its not gonna happen for the gayest of reasons

what a fan UN-friendly rule. makes no sense at all

and for the record, i dont think its clear cut who would win between j-rich and vince...i think its safe to say vince has some dunks noone has seen before. he even said himself he has some dunks that hes never seen performed.

i want to see someone bust out the 540

The dunk contest has never been right since the MJ/Wilkins days and it never will be again.

I agree with you that it is wimpish that he hasn't entered the dunk comp, but I can't agree that JRich would beat him....maybe I'm Vince Biased but I believe I have my reasons.

J-Rich is the 2 time champ, that means something, at least he is giving the fans what they want by going to it for 3 years in a row. And I don't even like the guy because of what he did to Boozer in last years Rookie game, I have been hopint that Booz would crack his skull in a game.

Back to the topic, of course you are going to pick Vince, but it is all about the crown baby, you want to be called the best dunker, you go out there and earn it the hard way. If Vince and a few others would contact Stern and say "we want in" he would easily lift that cover up of a rule.

It was because of player like Vince, Tracy, KG (The stars of the NBA) not giving a crap about it that has turned this contest into the joke that it is today.

MJ, Wilkins, Sampson, Dr.J, the NBA's best used to want to be in every year. You just don't se that anymore and the fans should flame the players before Stern.

I would ban their butts too for not giving a crap in the first place, let these kids dunk away because they actually want the pub.

Why would Vince want to go in again? to get smoked by some 3rd year player from golden state, or lose to some white guy from the denver nuggets? He got what he wanted, a great performance that people will remember and a claim as one of the best dunkers ever. Why would he want to go back in to possibly lose?

I believe Richardson would take it, but it wont happen so it doesnt matter.. just another WHAT IF.

Richard Jefferson was invited but he declined. He said that he's resting on the All Star Weekend.
