Bring back Brent Barry... Well, he was probably part of the most pathetic dunk contest in the past decade.

I would like to see DC rivalry build. Mase and Rich are solid but each aren't high profile enough to compete with Dominique and MJ's back and forth battles.

This contest will miss Mason, no question. Him and J-Rich was all we have had the last few years, they would have added some type of credibility.

so what? he bounced the ball off his head? it happens all the time in street ball, its just a joking around kind of thing. not that big of a deal. happens all the time in street ball, and fights dont break out, ya just go down to the other end of the court and chump the guy right back</div>

yeah, at least Richardson made the 3 after he bounced it off of his head

But, he was throwing it off of CARLOS BOOZER's head :thumbsdow , not someone like iverson or mcgrady that would wipe the court with him at the other end.

That was very disrespectful. I got very discouraged when he did that, it made me question his basketball ethics. Boozer is an excellent defender, and a great player. I would've felt insulted as well, at least Magic Johnson passed it beneath someone's legs when they jumped, that wasn't offensive as it didn't really embarass the player intentionally. No doubt he's a great dunker though. I think he'll take it again.

I havent visited this thread...Man..how come no one will listen to KJ.

    and amen to this:
    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting KJ:</div><div class="quote_post">
It was because of player like Vince, Tracy, KG (The stars of the NBA) not giving a crap about it that has turned this contest into the joke that it is today</div>

And another comment, VInce had pretty much kept his mouth shut about entering the dunk contest or not. He progbaby knew it was gonna happen.

All i can say is we can keep on dreaming ofr the best dunk contest. If more dunkers want in than they would(@lesat i would think) lift the rule.

BTW good job Air Canada. I read that in this mornings paper.

Relative to VC, I think he's pretty happy that he doesn't have to come up with an excuse for why he's not entering the dunk contest

To me, he doesn't really care that much about what the fans want, just look at last year's ASG. While he's TO's guy and a great talent, to me, Vince isn't about the fans or about true greatness. To me Vince is about getting his and loving Vince

The man cares about little else...........

I dont see why Lebron wouldnt have a chance of winning. Yeah I somehow had the feeling Carter wouldnt be going this year plus that he s not 100percent fit... And i agree with kj i dont really like jrich, really not. His dunks look so boring (last year at least) Vince Carters are much better. But well, lets see whos gonna go for it ...

The elbow in the rim? The 360 windmill? windmill from right under the basket? Between the legs bounced up from tracy mcgrady. Even the attempted free throw line two hander.

Those are all original, for most of JRich's dunks they were duplicated except for his last dunks of the comp.

Those dunks have never been seen in a nba dunk contest. But I've seen those the elbow in the rim dunk in 98 on that show vibe. It was some streetballer with dyed blond hair and he was about 6'3. He did a mini pump reverse over his head elbow in the rim dunk. I seen that, and I was like, what hell did he just do? So when Vince did that, it seemed like people's jaw dropped accept for me. Because that Blond hair guy's 1 was better and he is shorter. And the freethrow line 2 hander, I seen that track runner Michael Powell do that in the FootLocker dunk contest. Man should've taped that dunk, he's only 6'1 and swung on the rim. Body lined straight, now he look like he was walking on air.
But the 360 windmill & Between the legs bounced up from tracy mcgrady had me jumping around the house, those dunks were the ish. Plus Shaq said Vince told him he had the 720, plus somebody posted that he did that dunk when he challenged James White's freethrow tomahawk dunk. I've seen James White's freethrow dunk, which is the tied for best freethrow dunk with Michael Powell, but never seen 2 spins before. I wish he would enter just to do that dunk, and hopefully surprise us with other things we thought not even he could do.

Vince Carter was not even close to the freethrow line when he did that dunk. He was a good 3-4 feet inside.

J-Rich being boring? lol, you Raptor fans.

Too bad Rich will probably have 3 trophies to Carter's 1.

    Nuff said.

They need to up the stakes

I remeber a couple of years back when the dunk comp would come around people would be talking about it for weeks after it had taken place. kids would try and imitate the best dunks on their 8 foot hoops. it used to be the biggest event of the whole weekend. the Nba needs to increase the prize money and raise the stakes. with more money on the line everyone would try and enter. then you should only be given 50 if you pull off an amazing original dunk. just copying what everyone before you has done is getting to boring. Dont get me wrong i know how hard it is to pull off a dunk from the free frow line but mix it up, more people would watch if they didnt know what people were going to do, like the elbow dunk by VC that totally surprised me. The NBA needs to do something cause im starting to watch the 3 point comp more than the dunk comp... My advice put Ricky, Gerald Wallace (his dunk on Nachbar was crazy) lebron ( cause people would watch even if he did ****) and some others like Mason and J-Rich... then the comp would go off. you could maybe even have a qualifying comp from the east and one from the west before All- Star weekend, that would have to boost ratings, i know i'd watch

    What does everyone else think?

That has been David Aldridge's cry for years to have more money involved. I have been saying have that as well some some donations to charities.

Something has to be done because the players just don't care.

i dont think that has a direct relation to j-rich being "better" persay, but more to do with vince only entering once. who knows what would have happend if they squared off head to head. its easy to speculate, impossible to know

Last year, when the kings would be blowin someone out, the fans would chant "Wallace, Wallace" just so that they could see him dunk.</div>That's what im talking about. Nice to see another member here from the 916;)

Gerald Wallace has mad hops. You see his McDonald's commercial?

Personally, I think the dunk contest needs to be put to rest. It's gotten to be too boring, nobody is doing anything we haven't seen before. Nobody brings the drama and character to the competition like Mike did with his free throw line dunk, or like Dee Brown's pumpmyshoesthendunkwhilecoveringmyeyeswithmyarm dunk, or JR Rider's comefrombehindthebackboardandputtheballthroughmylegsinmidair dunk. Those guys came with it, added that drama and excitement missing in todays contests. I have an idea what to replace it with too, I'll post a thread about it to get your guy's opinion.

    "His nick-name is birdman

And It's not because he likes birds."

Its because he likes the rapper Baby. hehe

The only reason vince isnt probably goiong to enter is because he wants to show people that all of the great dunkers gave up dunking and showed off there all-around game. (Nique, MJ, ect.) Thats why lately hes beeng getting around 7-8 asts and 7-8 rebs.

He wanted to do something different with the two hands and messed up, but he also only needed around 40 points for the win. His other dunks made up for it, no?
