I've always felt Kareem Rush was a great scorer, and I've always felt that he was one of the few Laker backups that could create his own shot. Although even I do have to agree at times he does make some sily plays, but that comes with being young. He seems to be underrated on the defensive end also, and I think he is proving right now that he really can play defense. Scoring 30 points was nice, but it was a blowout anyway so I wouldn't give it much thought. He did start out the game great, with some good offensive moves and defensive stops, and I was very disappointed when Phil took him out so fast. I hope the Lakers look to keep him long term, because I can see him being a very good backup for Kobe for years to come.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Purple N Gold:</div><div class="quote_post">Sure, let's all jump on the Kareem Rush bandwagon, since he had a big game. </div> Didn't I just say I've always been a fan of him. I've always thought he had great potential, and like I said in my post I wouldn't base anything on this game because its a loss, but it does show he can create shots like I said. hop on the bandwagon..
Kareem played like he wants Kobe's (or at least Devean George's) job. Too bad all his points were essentially meaningless.
I was really high on Rush when he was at Missouri. I can say that my opinion of him has since fallen. Maybe it's just me, but Rush seems to play well when the game is no longer in doubt. When it matters, Rush seems to miss a lot of shots and make some bad turnovers. It might be an issue of trying too hard and maybe he relaxes when it's a blowout. I'm not sure, lets see how he plays come playoff time.
He's better to come off the bench, like Boykins, Williamson, Gooden, Lue and several other players, he's better off as a sparking support, he's good at that. I myself like Robin Cook, a big, hard working man with an incredible perimeter shooting ability, hopefully they'll use him alot more even when Malone and Shaq are back, he's shown he's dependable as well as capable.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Magic Johnson:</div><div class="quote_post">Oops sorry, yep, thanks for correcting me, do you agree by the way?</div> No problem...Most definetly I agree with you. I always loved Cook when he played at Illinois. He just needs to toughen up a bit and develop a post game...
Like I said in my first post, I think Rush is actually underrated in defense. With more playing time that he's getting I've noticed hes made quite a few good defensive plays. He doesn't come out hard on defense on each play, and that is his downfall. If he can play the defense he is capable of more consistantly, I think we'll be seeing him a lot more often even after the return of Kobe. As for Brian Cook, I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think he can be a solid backup for Shaq and Malone this season, along with Slava. I don't have a clue on what level he will be at in a few years from now, but to me it seems like hes got the potential.
Kareem Rush is 15+ player, he should play with the Bucks later on his career, or wherever he can play fully showcase his talent.

He can score but he just doesn't have much time on the court, but now since kobe's out, he might start to show his talent.

I still don't think he has any more to his game than his shot, but if he can score on a consistent basis, I'll take it. Just like you said though, I can't put much thought into because the Lake Show got smashed, but I look for him to be a decent player in the future, if he works on that shot a little bit more, and actually starts playing some defense(which he has done decent lately), we can look at another promising player for the future, to go along with Cook/Medvedenko.
I admit I was impressed and I think he's necessary for the lakers future when kobe's injured and the the others retire. He does have potential, yeah Medvedenko and Cook are very good as well. Look at my thread "lakers without f4"
I've been disappointed in Rush's career, in college he slashed and created his own shots. So far, he's very hesitant and tepid when he plays, and can't "see" the floor. On the other hand, Cook and Walton were GREAT picks, and if they can get Sampson to adhere to a work ethic, they have three great role players for the future.
Kareem's only role ever will be as instant offense off the bench...he still struggles defensively and its obvious he has problems with the offense sometimes...hes a good player, but lets not all get happy just because hes doing well with no Kobe, Karl or Shaq...

Without those three he's having to create his own shot, and isn't getting 1/3 as many open shots as he does with those three.
