The Rockets have THE best defense in the league...and here's why...

They rely on contesting shots and forcing players into uncomfortable positions offensively...they dont rely on turnovers, as they are among the worst in forcing turnovers...they put a body on people and have ATLEAST four players in the paint whenever someone drives...they allow no inside penetration or easy layups and are physical and aggressive...The guards do a great job closing out on perimeter shooters and funneling their opponents towards the middle into Yao and Cato...they thrive off of simple, basic defensive principles...Each player gives 110% defensively, even noted past matadors such as Francis and Mobley...everyone crashes the boards and the Rockets are great in transition an do not give up easy baskets, even sacrificing offensive rebounds to get stops...this is one of the best defensive teams in a long time, and easily the best defensive Rockets team in team history...

Yeah I agree. This year's team is a lot better than the team of last year. Jeff Van Gundy has brought a new system to the team and we've adapted to it perfectly.

They force the other team to take a lot of illadvised jumpshots. They play man to man and make it look like zone. And they have a big frontcourt with Yao and Cato, and a good backcourt with Mobley and Franchise.

Yeah true...I heard some NBA experts say that a good man-to-man looks like a zone...

Well, they're first in opponents Field Goal Percentage, but second in points allowed. I could only wonder who's first in that one... *cough*

Even so SA is first, I think an average person would choose to watch Yao and Francis than Duncan and Parker. I appreciate your team's attitude and yeah, I like to watch them but there is a reason why the Spurs-Nets series was the worst in history, and that wasn't because of KMart and Kidd. [IMG]

Well, they made the playoffs. ;P

Anyway, they're more exciting to watch now, with Ginobili spicing things up. Does no one still love to see the fundamentals?

I love to see the fundamentals however I would take Houston's defense over San Antonio's in a second. Houston is a fundamentally sound defensive ball club and I would put their defense up against anyone's.

I agree...I think Houston's D is more better, and I think the Cato/Ming/Jackson frontline is better than Nesterovic/Duncan/Bowen...I think cato is extremely underrated as a post defender, and I also think Van Gundy is a lot better defensive coach than Popovich...

More better? Your english teacher would be thrilled.

I agree that Jeff Van Gundy is better at coaching defense than is Popovich, but he's still very good, and I believe he's more well-rounded than Van Gundy.

And yes, Cato is a good defender when he's not in foul trouble.
