Any of you guys notice he's on the clippers...I didn't see the game but I saw the boxscore and saw his name...I was like WTF?? Since when did he get on the team...anybody know? What do you guys think, will he help or will he be gone by next week (assuming he's on a 10 day contract) Most L.A. fans should be very familar with Barnes. I hope he sticks in the league
Come on, none of you clipper fans got love for Matt Barnes? Personally, I'm very excited he's finally getting the opportunity...I don't think he'll be in the league long, but I hope he proves me wrong....
4 Points 8 Rebounds 3 Assists off the bench in 20 minutes...Although didnt shoot the ball well (.250).Has only played one game. Was the 46th pick in the 2002 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. Ive never seen him play, but if he can keep up his rebounding, i think he can stay in the NBA for awhile.
I took a history course with Matt Barnes; hopefully his NBA career will be better than his academic record. Much success Matt.
Speaking of history, Matt was one of the few players during the Steve Lavin era to actually improve his numbers each season at UCLA. I like Matt's game a lot, he probably won't put up too many huge numbers on offense, yet he is capable. He plays a very similar game to Bobby Simmons, who has also been a great pick-up for this team. I really hope Matt sticks with the Clipps for the remainder of the season, if he continues to play anything like he did in his debut, he'll undoubtedly improve his market value greatly. BTW - if you havn't heard, Matt is considered a pro football prospect as well, he says that if the NBA doesn't end up working for him that he'll be trying out for some NFL teams in the offseason.

Barnes was a tight end....
So, what do you guys think about his play so far...Does he deserve to be signed for the rest of the season? 22.9 minutes, 4.9 ppg, 2.1 asst, 5.6 rbs .88 stl .371% FG
Matt Barnes should be signed for the remainder of the season. He's a versatile player and is giving the Clippers some nice numbers on the boards. It will really depend on who the Clippers can deal before the deadline. Keyon, Marko, Ely, and Wilcox are all being shopped around.

I don't expect him to be getting much time at all when Simmons come back, though. EDIT: wait what? Wilcox and Marko are being shopped around? WTF they better not trade them, especially Wilcox. Wilcox is full of potential and he's not worth what he can be in the future, if they trade him they will get robbed. Same with Marko, he will only get better.

Matt was a good player in high school. He went to school w/my co-workers son's and I got the chance to see him play a few times. I'm suprised he hasn't found a home yet in the league.
It's official Barnes will be signed for the remainder of the season. Congrats. LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday signed forward Matt Barnes to a second 10-day contract. Barnes signed the first 10-day deal on January 18 and has averaged 4.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 22.2 minutes in six games. He had only two points in 15 minutes of Tuesday's 102-92 victory over the Chicago Bulls. The 6-7 Barnes is a rookie out of UCLA. ^^I think it has something to do with cap space or roster size. I'll try to find the exact answer to your question, but there's probably some league rule not allowing the Clippers to offer anything above 10 days.

^^Here's the official rule on 10-Day Contracts: In the second week in January, all existing player contracts are guaranteed for the full season. Teams may now sign free agents to 10-day contracts solely for the purpose of replacing an injured player. A team can renew a player's 10-day contract, but must waive or sign the player for the remainder of the season after the player has fulfilled two such contracts.

Thanks for the info.
Wait a minute...if he was signed to a second 10-day contract, then he's not signed for the rest of the season yet....They might decide to waive him after the second contract is up....
^^Dunleavy is on record saying he will sign him after the second 10 day contract is up. Just read the link on post #12.
