<div class="quote_poster">Quoting :</div><div class="quote_post">The Magic hoped Gordan Giricek would make major strides this season following a good rookie season, but he has been somewhat of a disappointment. He was replaced in the starting lineup two weeks ago in large part because his defense has been lacking all season. Being pulled out of the lineup also seemed to have an impact on Giricek's confidence. He has been hesitant to take his shot and has struggled when he has turned it loose, making just 42.5 percent from the floor. But Giricek seems to be coming out of his slump of late. His defense has been much improved -- to the point that Davis has been able to play him for long stretches again. And he looked confident in the first half Monday against Milwaukee, making all four of his shots. "The thing we've always talked about with Gordan is his defense," Davis said. "In the past, teams would just go right at him. All bets would be off and teams would attack Gordie. But he's realized he has to be a better defender and he's worked at it. He's made some progress." </div> Full Story His numbers are down this season. He's averaging 10.1 points per game, which is quite the drop. In his rookie season he averaged 12.3 points per game. Sometimes he looks like he doesn't even want to be out there.
I agree. He's really been horrible this season. Part of that though could be credited to Bogans's great play. Hopefully he can turn it on later in the season.
He reminds me alot of Stromile Swift, lazy, strong, athletic. Doesn't even try even of someone of his size and athleticism. Thanks To Francise3 for conferring to me about Swift's athleticism, increase my knowledge of him. Anyway people like him aren't worth the time, effort and cap. Especially with the Magic in such a slump of a year, you're better off with the likes of Oakley or even Rice. Get rid of him.
Can I say Sophmore Slump lol. But he was liek the second or thrid option last year now hes 4th or 5th.
The Magic better get rid of him soon. He is a waste of potential and he's already in his late 20's and supposedly in his prime. If your prime stats are 10ppg, you gotta go.
Gordon, Gordon, Gordon. He's been playing horribly this season mostly but when he gets hot he stays there. He needs to make up his mind what he want's to do. Whether it's play horrible and stay on the bench or play like Bogans and Tracy and start. It's up to him now
It doesn't help though, yesterday. He was 4-4 from the floor playing good and doesn't play at all in the 2nd half until 5 minutes left in the game. That's gotta kill a player's confidence.
I think he has to get adjusted to his role.. He looked good when he started HIS Season.. but i guess he just declined.. in my mind i never really see him on this team next year.. But lets see where he goes as a guy coming off the bench..
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TimFlem:</div><div class="quote_post">Gordon, Gordon, Gordon. </div> Umm...It should be Gordan, Gordan, Gordan.
He's starting to play good. The last 2 games, he looks to have found some confidence and is starting to find his shot.
I agree with you sportsrock. He has sort of like took a 180 turn for the better. If he continues to play like this do you think he'll get his starting position back.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting sportsrock37:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, with Bogans not playing tonight, he will start. He desperately needs a good game tonight.</div> Yeah maybe he'll get on fire and play like he's supposed too. I get to watch this one so I'll be rooting for him and the rest of the Magic.
Gordan is a tremendous player. Really, I think its the fault of Davis of not getting him involved more in the offense by drawing up plays for him. Instead, Davis insists on running the offense a la McGrady. Giricek could easily be a 15-17 ppg scorer. Think Reggie Miller, with Gooden, Howard, Hunter and Pachulia setting high screens that Gordan can use either to take the open outside shot or drive down the clear lane. I admit that he often is weak on defense, but when you're as bad as the Magic are right now, I think the extra offensive punch he'd give you is worth it.
You have a point there Starman. But looks at the game against the Cavs. He missed "his shot" everytime they set him up with it. He did make a three and some key buckets but that still wasn't enough to impress me about Gordy's play.
Gordy isn't confident about his shot right now. He's hesitating to shoot the ball and then tries to create shots for his teammate. I wish he would just shoot it half the time.

But you can't pass judgement on one game, although it seems that Johnny Davis has done just that. Gordan isn't gonna be comfortable playing a big role one game and a small one the next. If he's gonna be the #2 scorer, he's gotta be treated like it every game. And when that happens, yes he'll still have his weak games, but overall he'll be much more effective on a regular basis.
Giricek isn't the #2 option and isn't even a top 3 option right now. Bogans has been playing good, so that is a reason why Giricek hasn't gotten as much minutes. Giricek doesn't have too much confidence as he passes up a lot of open shots.
