Don't know if you guys have discussed this before. Who among the many commentarist / journalists out here that cover the NBA do you respect? Who has the best information and who does the best analysis? And on the reverse side, who needs to get a new job? Personally, I like David Aldridge, Peter Vecsey for inside info, Mark Stein and Jack Calhoum. And Dr. Jack Ramsey, he always has measured analysis and is a walking encyclopedia. On the flip side, Charley Rosen, Ahmad Rashad and everyone's favorite; Bill Walton.
my fav commentator/color guy is Brad Daugherty and I'm really likin' Sean Elliot and Steve Kerr too(cant really stand Dick Vitale as a commentator)....jounalist is Scoop Jackson
I like T.J. Simers of the L.A. Times (altho he's more about general sports than NBA)...You either love the guy or you hate his guts... Basketball journalist, I would say Scoop Jackson and Stephen A. Smith...I'm not really a David Aldrigde kinda guy I totally despise Charlie Rosen...his articles are the most bias pieces of crap i've ever read....
I don't like Walton, he seems too harsh in my opinion, even Laimbeer speaks more nicely then he does. My personal favorite is Steve Kerr, he tells it like it is, while retaining a very nice natured description.
I HATE BILL WALTON! David Aldridge is pretty cool. Chad Ford comes up with pretty good stuff in the ESPN NBA insider.
I really like Mitch Albom. He's a columnist for the Detroit Free Press, and he's just knowledgeable about everything he writes about. He had a good article during the playoffs last year about why the West is more dominant than the East. He's had so many offers to work for bigger newspapers and magazines throughout his career, but he wants to stay in Detroit and be able to spend time with his family. I think it's pretty cool.
Shuck Swirsky, Doug Smith, Jennifer Quinn, Eric Smith, Chris Young, Spero Adidas, and .. Jack Armostrong
I don't agree with him, nor do I find him to be any good at what he does, in fact he kind of gets on my nerves, but Steven A. Smith is passionate, I'll give him that. I absolutely HATE Peter Vecsey -- I can't recall one instance he's been right... he GUESSES most of his "inside" information... he says so-and-so will be traded, then years later when he is, he claims he called it. But everybody's been traded!! And in today's NBA there's a good chance everybody will be traded at least once every 3 years... even star players!! Marc Stein is a complete moron... actually I just think he's kind of an A$$ when it comes to fan emails. He bashes every bad email he gets!! I mean everybody in the public eye gets criticized, take it like a man. I hate the Boston Celtic color commentator, ESPN plays his little tirades once in a while... he is so bias it's not funny. Pierce gets touched and he spits out all kinds of slurs at the refs, I think he should be fined (even though announcers can't get fined). Fans don't make for good commentators!! But enough of who I hate, I think Marv Albert is the best announcer and best analyst I guess goes to David Aldridge even though I'm sure there are better... he sort of gets on my nerves too All time best sports writer/analyst is easily Bob Costas... he'd beat everybody at a sports quiz show. Plus he's got that good TV voice. Lastly I hate former players being analysts... Charles Barkey (I love the guy, but he) SUCKS at analizing games, I'm not even sure if he WATCHES the NBA anymore, yet talks incoeherently about it. I don't think playing basketball gives you the education and skill needed to be an analyst, although several have done well (mostly NFL players, but some in the NBA) like Tim Legler and Greg Anthony.
Best play by play is Marv Albert, hands down. Best color comentator was Hubie Brown before he returned to coaching. I'm sure many don't like someone who is long winded like him, but if you had the attention span to listen, he provided a coaches insight into what was going on. You learn about the game listening to him. TV Journalist goes to David Aldridge. Newpaper journalist goes to Peter Vescey. Whether or not you think he has as much inside info as he says he does, he is witty and entertaining to read.
I like reading Marc Stein and Chad Ford. I have no respect for Peter Vescey as he's a rumour monger who's work is mostly fiction. Just throw rumours at the wall enough and some of them might even stick I like listening to Jack Armstrong locally in Canada. I met him at Niagara University a few years back when he was just starting with the Purple Eagles and the guy is happy to talk hoops with anybody Really a guy who loves and understands the game............
Bill Laimbeer is by far the worst commentator. By FAR. Doug Collins is a better commentator than he is a coach, I enjoy listening to him disect the game. As well as John Tompson, he knows the game very well. Someone tell me how Marc Stein got a job at ESPN. Who is next? Ross the Intern from Jay Leno?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">Ain't he Allen Iverson's college coach ?</div> Iverson's... and Zo, Ewing and Mutombo. Go Hoyas!

I definitely want what he's smoking.
