Who do u think is the best college player ever.....I'd have to say Hank Gathers from Loyola Marymount...he had to be one of the best....he had a complete game....It a horrible thing how he collapsed and all...he would have been a star in the NBA!

    Lew Alcindor.
    Bill Walton.
    Christian Laettner.

Just from hearsay, I would say Wilt Chamberlain (Kansas), and Bill Walton (UCLA)

I don't really have an opinion of who's the best I've seen tho...

That's awesome that you mention Hank, I don't think too many people remember him and what a great player he was. Though I don't know that he was the greatest because of the level of competition that Loyola played against, he's certainly near the top of my list, and remains my all-time favorite college basketball player. I remember the day he collapsed during that WCC tournament game, I cried like a baby. I started writing an article on him last week, but I've been slacking on finishing it up. I'm trying to find the best way to close it out, there's so many things I want to say. Anyway, just wanted to give you props for bringing up his name. - and here are some of my top candidates:

    Alcindor
    Walton
    Maravich
    West
    Russell
    Chamberlain
    Gathers
    Bird
    Laettner
    Hayes

I'd say Maravich just in terms of dominating his fellow players. To average greater than 40 ppg for a single season is amazing, let alone 3 straight years. If freshmen had been eligible to play back then, his numbers could have been even more fantastic.

He'd be on my list too. Also to my list would be Lew Alcindor (UCLA), Tim Duncan (Wake Forest), Bill Walton (UCLA), and Oscar Robinson (Cincinnati).

You're thinking of Alcindor, and I'd say that he is easily one of the top three college players ever. I keep hearing people say Bill Walton, who was good, but he wasn't even the best center on his college team for the decade, which would be Alcindor.

My top three are Wilt, Pistol Pete, and Lew.

Yeah, Kareem (Lew) couldn't even dunk in those days. That only helped him develop an even more deadly hook shot and post game. My top three would be Alcindor, Walton, Robertson. Maravich, Chamberlain and Russell are very close behind.

Bill Walton undoubtly. On the college level, it's hard to rank them as clearly as in the NBA, where MJ= number 1. But Walton stands out.

Pete Maravich. What did he average in college? Pretty close to 40 points a game. I don't see that there is a question about that. And if there was a three point line then, he would have averaged more.

MICHAEL JORDAN......................J/K, I would have been burned badly for that one.

Lew Alcindor was the best or so I've heard. Never seen him play though. As far as people I have seen play I would say Tim Duncan Rip Hamilton and Miles Simon. I know Duncan did not win any championships but he was the best player in my eyes. Hamilton and Simon did win the championships and they were the best players in the NCAA when I was watching

Maravich. He averaged 40 a game and they didn't even have a 3 point line back then.

Oscar Robertson has to be high up on the list too.

Pete had somethin' like 14+ games in which he scored 50 or more a game...and he had somethin' like 6 games where he scored 60 or more... lol crazy numbers....

However,I think someone like Alcindor,Walton or Laettner should be ahead of him for the simple fact that they put up awesome numbers and led their teams to multiple championships....

as much as i hate giving him credit... laettner. yuck. he did have a college game.. he did make that olympic team.. too bad he just fell apart. he was set to be the next great white player in the nba.. tsk tsk.

those duke / uconn games were intense.

i'd really like the ncaa to come out w/ a dvd of the best full games of all time.
