There are rumors here in L.A. that he's upset about not recieving an extension, and this is his way of showing his displeasure...

I don't mind Shaq's time off, as long as he is riding the exercise bike and staying in shape. I'd rather him take the extra precaution and comeback strong for the post-season. I've also heard the rumors Shaq is doing this because he's not getting offered an extension, but he's only hurting himself if that's the case. It just shows the Lakers he can't stay healthy and decreases his value.

I've also heard that rumor recently that Shaq is sitting out because of the contract extension stuff. I've been very suspicious about this, I don't think Shaq is still all that bad to be honest. Like shapecity said, if he's working out and staying in shape I have no problem with it at all, however, I don't even think he's doing that. IMO he's looking for some free time off, also sitting back possibly waiting to here where he stands as far as an extension, like the rumor says. I love Shaq, but his injuries have been one thing that I've been suspicious about, we need him on the court soon.

It'll be 2006 by the time Shaq's current extension runs out. Where'd he get the idea that he's worth another one already, considering how quickly he's deteriorating and not giving a crap about it.

If any part of that rumor about Shaq doing this because of an extension is true, all I can say is TRADE HIM NOW!!!! I can't stand it when players bring their contract problems on the court, but atleast they're on the court. If the contract really does run out at 06, WHAT THE HELL SHAQ!!! He probably wants a big fat 25mil/year extension while he probably still can get it. Like everyone said, hes deteriorating, and he probably won't be able to get half that extension before his contract runs out. I've always hated hearing all these bad rumors about Shaq doing something to prove a point, but even I have to believe some of it has to be true. I do hope however, that this one isn't true.

i second you phreeze, Id trade shaq now that he's still of some big value... it might jeopardize the Lake's hope of titles but it's a perfect fitting for whiner Shaq. But, if I were the Lake GM, I wouldn't do it this season, let's stay loyal to Gary and Karl (they want rings) and after this season, I'd ship him to the Bobcats for its owner (just joking, Bob).

lakers can trade shaq only if kobe will not be convicted or move to another team. shaq is getting older (but still good) and kobe is getting better (he's already a great player but still improving [IMG]). no matter what, they both need each other to get another championship.

HHHmmm..Maybe he'll come back with Karl. Maybe he doesn't want to be there defending the paint all by himself. You know how he gets lazy most of the time.

Shaq Lazy?? Where do you get off saying he is lazy. Lets see you go on the court agaist players like Big Ben and still win games like that! Why is everyone bit*hing about Shaq??

Give the man some time to heal. He aint doing this cause of some contractsh*t. He is injuried and needs the time. Why would he let his team that he loves loose just over some money. Come on! Money aint a problem for him! He has enough of that! Dont believe any of those rumors!!

We're talking about the same Shaq that threatened to stop playing defense because he felt he wasn't getting the ball enough...

Like I mentioned, its only a rumor, and it might not be true, but it certainly isn't far-fetched. Shaq is a sensitive guy who has a history of lashing back in childish ways.

I disagree. I believe Shaq isn't injured anymore and he's worried more about his contract status than his place with this struggling basketball team. Kobe Bryant was out for a number of games, he came back into the starting lineup last Saturday, and he was still clutching that bad shoulder, and after the game he told reporters he was trying to provide leadership and help this team get a win. Now, where was Shaq in this picture? If we can have Kobe Bryant playing at 75%, that calf pull Shaq has suffered should be all but over now. He needs to stop whining and complaining like a child and be like the Superman he's thought himself of being.

but if u trade the diesel, it will be hard to win. it's being proven now, they can't win with out him in the paint.

The above statement just proved VC's theory.

To say that Shaq is soft is absolutely ludicrous. When he's healthy (and even when he isn't) he dominates the game. What about all of the players who play full seasons but never make any effort to improve their game? Are they tougher than Shaq?

And for the record, I hate LA (so I'm not being biased).

Like I've seen from you on this site before, you totally miss the point. Shaq is soft. He sits out of games with an injury that most players would keep playing thru. Shaq is soft because he whines like a 13 year old kid when he doesn't get his way. Shaq is soft in lots of ways...his word is soft, because it's hard to believe anything he says..he's soft mentally because he always threatens this and threatens that if he doesn't get things the way he wants..and yes he is soft physically if a strained calf makes him miss this many games.

He always talks about 'Team this.....' and 'Team that...' well it doesn't make much difference if he does all this, for his own benefit,at the expense of the team now does it?

You have just described half of the players in the league. It isn't softness, it's just the NBA mentality. Guys like AI are the exceptions.

I didn't miss your point, I just don't agree with it.

    </div>Of course I agree with that statement[IMG]

Shaq sits for extended periods of time when he suffers his minor injuries, it's just a fact. It's for this reason that I agree that he's soft. Now once he laces em up and steps on the court, all that goes away. He needs to take a tip from AI and learn to play w/injuries.

Who else does that? Kobe? Steve Francis? Marbury? Bibby? Allan Houston? McGrady? Nowitzki? Jermiane O'Neal? They may get hurt but they sure as crap don't sit out with a phantom injury to mask the fact that they are whining because they don't get their way....

    Shaq is soft
