At this point of the season, who would get your vote for the coach of the year award. I would have to give it to Devner Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik.
I think the Memphis and Warriors coaches both deserve props for working with such great individual talent and actually making them work together with some chemistry and actually pull in some wins, making the teams look and actually be better then they were expected to be. I mean look what happened to the Magic and Phoenix, they weren't as good as we would've thought they would've been. I say Saunders.
Flip Saunders, hes taken a team with only 4 players on the roster left from the previous year, and only one of those four healthy the whole season and taken them to the third best record in the NBA. you have to be a good coach to do that
Some of the above choices are laughable Flip Saunders? Phil Jackson? Please..... This award goes to Jeff Bzdelik,Hubie Brown,Jerry Sloan or Terry Porter Those coaches are the most deserving.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phreeze:</div><div class="quote_post">4 posts and not one of you mentioned Jerry Sloan... COME ON!!!</div> I have to say Jerry Sloan. Jazz are doing great without Malone and Stockton and they win the championship this year........ Karl will regret leaving Jazz for a long time.
There was already a thread like this but I have to say Jeff Bzdelik. Just look what he and the Nuggets have accomplished.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ming637:</div><div class="quote_post">Jazz are doing great without Malone and Stockton and they win the championship this year........ Karl will regret leaving Jazz for a long time.</div> No they wont, no chance.. besides, they might not even make the playoffs Either way, my vote still goes to Jerry Sloan
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting eginobili20:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, Jackson, you dont know how good this guy is. Just cause lakers arent good doesnt mean he isnt</div> This is about coach of the year, doesn't mean Jackson isn't a good coach Larry Brown,Pop,Aldeman,Saunders and Jackson all good coaches but that doesn't mean they deserve the award over guys who have coached their teams to good records with alot less star talent.
Jerry Sloan, Terry Porter and Jeff Bzdelik. Both Sloan and Porter had basically nothing at the start of the season, and have developed their players enough to make a playoff run, when they were expected to be pushing for last overall at the start of the season. Jeff Bzdelik had the players to work with, but still manged to turn a team around from the worst equal record in the league to a team looking like making the palyoffs in the West.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting saad:</div><div class="quote_post">bill cartwright</div> Are you kidding me? The Bulls went from a preseason pick to be in the playoffs to one of the worst teams in the worst conference... and i think that they have the talent to be a good team too. Compared to what other coaches like Bzedlik, Sloan, and Porter have done with less talent (well not Bzedlik I guess- he has a talented team), Cartwright hasn't done anything.
Jerry Sloan...how he has made that roster of nobodies into a competitive, cohesive unit is incredible...
I have to agree with Allnet and AK1. My top five for COY so far consists of Jerry Sloan, Jeff Bzdelik, Hubie Brown, Terry Porter, and Rick Adelman. Sloan's made a team of no one's into a playoff contender. Bzdelik is busy turning a team with last year's worst record into a contender; though I put most of the credit for the turnaround on Kiki for assembling the team, Bzdelik is holding up his part of the bargain by orchestrating the pieces. Brown has taken a team with practically the same pieces as last year and just turned them around in terms of attitude and play. Porter has taken a team that most picked to be the worst in the East, if not the league, and taken it into the thick of the playoff hunt, and has a chance to improve on last year's record despite being in a rebuilding year and losing last year's stars. Rick Adelman always seems to win, and this year he's been doing it without his best player overall, his superstar. Subtract most coaches' superstars and their team falls to pieces.
