    Pistons "pretenders" of the East?

    http://www.freep.com/sports/pistons/nbacol22_20040122.htm

This pisses me off a little. 13 games in a row isn't an easy feat no matter who you are playing. Streaks are bound to end and teams are bound to have bad games. The Pistons did have a poor showing against the Pacers, I agree. However, I don't think that should take away from their 13 straight victories.

Hopefully, tonight, they will have a good showing against the T-Wolves to prove their worth.

They can say what they want. Sure, the Pistons are pretenders. When these "pretenders" knock the other teams in the East out of the playoffs I wonder what they'll say. They don't have a superstar, they don't score a lot of points, they can't be for real. How smart these critics are. The Pistons must have pretended to win those 29 games.

well, we didnt' win tonight, but at least we proved that we can beat the T-Wolves.

i'm glad that we've beaten San Antonio and (in my eyes) Minnesota. i hope that confidence builds and we continue to play with "swagger".

With a bit of luck? We got cheated, we "beat" them with all skill. That game is a win in my mind, but a loss in the couloms.

Yeah, we may have gotten a loss but to any intelligent reporters, the Pistons won tonight. Too bad that in the power rankings we will drop because we went 1-2 against the good teams, even though we really went 2-1.

I'm dissapointed but if we manage to put together another 10 game win streak, I think that I will let it slide.

    That's real generous, Pyro! [IMG]

I hope that the players can use the "offensive foul" as inspiration and energy to win their next games. Not that they need any inspiration. As far as I'm concerned, they're still on fire. They played last night with great intensity. Some pretenders.

I like that addition to your sig, by the way. [IMG]

Yep. I think all us pistons fan should add the same thing to our sig and not remove it till Febuary 20th, when the Pistons will beat the Timberwolves.

Yeah, I couldn't write exactly what I felt because I would be banned, so I took away all profanity and that is what I came up with for my sig. BenWallace3, that is what I was planning to do, it will have a greater effect if all the Piston fans do this though, so good idea.

I didn't catch the game, so I can't start a debate regarding the officials. Most of the time, I hate it when someone uses the excuse of the officals for their teams loss. But, it must have been pretty bad if you guys have it in your signature.

As for pretenders of the east, of course not. To win ball games, the NBA has turned it's focus over to defense. Tayshaun Prince, Chucky Atkins, and Big Ben all play with strong defensive desires.

Last year, the only thing holding them back was a consistent scorer. Rip Hamilton seems to have permanently adjusted to that role for the Pistons. As I've said before, almost any team can win the east. The Pistons have a good chance to go deep into the playoffs this year.

There, I changed my sig, too. I feel sort of stupid holding a grudge about it; after all, they're only human. However, it's sort of a Pistons fan thing now, so I like it.

I wouldn't worry what the media say, with all this pretenders rubbish. They have said the same for the last 2 seasons,Pistons are overlooked every season. While each year they prove their doubters wrong.

I'm dissapointed the fact Pistons didn't get over the loss to the Wolves by losing to the Hawks at home.

AllNet, how come you have to remind us about the loss to the Hawks. If I was able to post a preview, my key match-up would have been Darko vs SAR. I would have proposed for us to start Darko, and then we lost. (Although, I would include Ben's stats and say Ben/Darko Vs. SAR so that people wouldn't be angry) That was dissapointing to lose to Atlanta at home.

It had to be mentioned,Terry suddenly decided to have a career high shooting game,Stephen Jackson got hot as he has been doing lately(Normally I would be smiling when saying that but not this time)

Pistons need to get over the Timberwolves loss

Championship teams don't focus on the past.

Who said that we are focusing on the past. It is just the fans that still really care. Our team just had an emotional loss and some teams get a boost from those types of games while others decide to loss to Atlanta. We fit the second category, I'm sure we will bounce back though. We did when we were 2-7 during a 9 game stretch. Every team goes through some bad games.

It was clear the Pistons team still had the Wolves loss on their minds. The fans are still angry about it but so are the players.I expected the Hawks to be a victim for Pistons to bounce back by making a statement, however that was far from the case.

They were really never in the game-which is rather sad

It happens... and the Spurs lost to the Hawks too. Although I was dissapointed that it was never really close.

On another note, why is it when we lose Indiana loses and when we win they win. This is seriously unfair. We are still 3.5 games behind them! All I'm hoping for is for them to collapse.

It's very strange yes,Pacers seem to lose when they know this team will.Everyone has bad games, proof of that was Pacers losing to the Wizards.

Honestly,I see Pacers holding the 1st seed all the way through. They fell apart last season but that was with Isiah Thomas as coach,we all know how good a coach Rick Carisle is.So I don't expect it to happen for the 2nd straight season.

At this stage of the season the battle of the east is between Pacers and the Pistons

    No one else.

The Pistons probably won't put together another streak like this for the rest of the season. It wasn't a fluke, but it is over. I'm really glad Indiana lost those two games; that was our break right there. Who do the Pistons play next? Whoever it is, they'd better show up like they're "goin' to work" like that song on FOX Sports Net. I can't stand that song.

What bothers me about people calling them pretenders is, what are they pretending to be? They're playing hard and winning games, and isn't that their job? They are good enough to make it to the Finals, despite recent games. What happens in the regular season doesn't prove anything once the playoffs come around.
