<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big Nasty:</div><div class="quote_post">BOSTON - The Celtics on Friday have suspended forward Vin Baker indefinetly for another violation of his alcohol treatment program.</div> Link
What's with the acoholic suspensions? First Christain Laettner than Eddie Griffin now Baker? They have to realize they have responsiblities and they should keep them.
That's three strikes...I feel for Baker, I really do, but you'd think the man would try harder than this for his career. And for his life.

He's becoming almost like the Daryl Strawberry of the NBA..chance after chancer after chance..
He's a grown man, but alcoholism is a disease, and better men than him have struggled with it. The stress of playing professional basketball in a great sports city like Boston would take a toll on anyone. Baker has dealt with it the wrong way, and I do feel sorry for him. However, if he's suspended ten days they'll release him from his contract, so at least that's more cap space...to sign a certain Laker perhaps.
This is one of the things that sometime make basketball not all the worthwhile. I really admired this guy, I was hoping he'd be strong and like before, he was capable of so much and accomplished it and now he just threw it away. He should've really tried....

Three strikes and your out? This is a serious LIFE situation and it is not to be taken lightly. Alcoholism IS a disease and this man is struggling with it at the time. I'm pretty sure basketball is at the back of his mind right now. I feel really sorry for the guy because its hard to kick an addiction and it looked like he was on the right path in the beginning of the season. I hope he gets the help he needs, screw cap space and waiving him..thats secondary, he needs help and I hope he gets it.
They really should just release him....he obviously has a serious problem...maybe if he gets realeased it will be a reality check and he will will get the help that he neeeds!!
Very sad story considering how well he had progressed. His contract will most likely be terminated, from a celtics perspective, they get rid of the contract, but as a fan I feel bad for Baker

Who's fault is it that he keeps stopping therapy and noncomplying with his treatment? He knows whats right and he knows what's wrong. Do I feel sorry for him that alcoholism is a problem for him? yes,but I don't feel sorry him as far as basketball is concerned..How many chances has he been given? Regardless of what alcoholism is,he has the power to control is and stop it if he so wants.
*sigh* I remember I was getting flamed earlier this season for saying that Baker was "a fallen star"... Regardless, I agree with Big Nasty... like most diseases Alcoholism can be treated. This is by no means his first offense, he has been given a number of chances...I wish the best and hopefully stepping out of the spotlight will help him on his recovery...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big Nasty:</div><div class="quote_post"> Regardless of what alcoholism is,he has the power to control is and stop it if he so wants.</div> Thats pretty easy for you to say, I really don't think you have any idea what is going on with this man. Alcoholism is not something you turn on and off, it stay with you if not properly treated. Yes he does have the means to get treated but you don't understand any kind of plight this man has been through or is going through to do this. It takes awhile for people to get rid of something like this, just think of it like smoking, some people can quit cold turkey but most need time to get off the addiction. I have been around this stuff and it is destructive in ones life. You can't just say for him to take it like a man and stop it. I'm pretty sure you have been strong enough not to encounter something like this because it seems that way by how you talk about it. But this is a serious life issue that has no easy solution.
Baker has depression, and he drinks to try and wash it away. It's the quick fix that never works on the long run. Get a room, buy some whores that have had their tubes tied and take out you frustration that way.

Baker is violating his treatment program...they are trying to help him but it's just not working out...in the end, everyone is trying to give him a chance but he's the only one to blame for continuely messing them up...
