<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big Nasty:</div><div class="quote_post">HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Providence is making a run at the Big East elite.

The Friars followed last-second losses to No. 16 Texas and Rutgers by winning their next five games, including Saturday's 66-56 upset over No. 4 Connecticut on the Huskies' tough home court.

Ryan Gomes led the Friars (13-3, 4-1) with 26 points and 12 rebounds and Providence passed UConn (15-3, 3-1) for first place in the conference.

The Friars are 2-1 against ranked teams this season and snapped UConn's 19-game winning streak at the Hartford Civic Center.

"It's a hard place to play," Providence coach Tim Welsh said. "You let this building get going and all of a sudden a one-point game turns into nine real quick and it gets out of hand."</div>

I was very disapointed with Uconn's performance....They are they are one of the top teams in the country....they have the best player in the country.....they should be able to blow by a team like the friars....they better get there act together before March!!!

Connecticut is one of those teams with all the professional talent in the world but not much experience being at the top. They take the big games seriously but seem to always let the so-called 'easy' games become closer than they should be. I think they'll finish the season with seven or eight losses.

This is Uconn's MO, they blow out a few teams then struggle in a home game. I give Providence a ton of credit though, they're a VERY good team and they played a great game. Not that big of shocker if you ask me.

"especially against a team like rice"

<font color="Blue"><strike>SHUT UP.</strike> </font> did you WATCH the game? rice had the game of their LIVES against uconn first off, uconn played well that game.. obviously not their best ball, but they still won.

that stupid freaking backcourt is just playing terrible. and they're not making up for it on defense either. definitely not playing to the level they should be playing at, that's for sure.

i'm disappointed. i'm glad calhoun went off in the conference after the game too, because btw, he passed on stupid ryan gomes who played right down the street from me, yet he got caron butler and emeka okafor, who are worlds better than ryan gomes. idiot reporter.

7-8 losses? yeah right.. they don't have a tough game the rest of the season. well, they still have syracuse twice, who they'll smash.. you'll see this monday on espn, sort of like we did LAST year, TWICE. and pittsburgh can't beat us without brandin knight so. That's basically it, the rest of the big east is slacking. the big east tournament shouldn't be too difficult this year, though the way uconn is playing they won't even wind up with a #1 seed.

they play well at the civic center.. just terrible against providence.

i am "chilled". it's just stupid to hear from someone that basis their judgment on pure statistics that hadn't actually watched the game(s), like i do.

providence is a top 25 team now.. they aren't THAT awful as everyone likes to think. they didn't lose to mount saint mary's, they lost to providence, who are 13-3 btw, and ranked above oklahoma. (whether they got dropped lower because of bookout or not, i dont know). 3 losses, vs. 3 top 25 teams..

hey nobody thought g-tech was **** either.. when uconn lost to them.. and they've had quite a season thusfar, have they not?

Well they may be ranked now...but they weren't prior to that and everyone was saying UConn would steamroll them...I was just saying you had better watch what you say...

...and GA Tech is/was higher thought of than Providence.

providence beat illinois early on and lost to texas by 2 pts. all their other victories are splendid too.

and who are these "everyone was saying" people?

i don't recall saying they would steamroll anybody. i expect them to win every night they're on the court, regardless the team, but i (personally) don't depict whether something is a blowout or not.

alot of the so called experts predicted an easy victory for UConn..you know that as well as me...Providence beat Illinois and Texas? Both of those teams are way overrated this year...anyone who watches college ball could tell you that....Dee Brown can't do it alone yano [IMG]

no, providence lost by 2 pts to texas (which i said.)

i know.. i don't like either one of those teams, but ranking wise.. they are up there.

those experts in college basketball are bozos. digger is so nd biased, vitale is so acc biased.. the only one i give ANY credibility to is bilas. he's like kellerman, except not with boxing.
