Byron Scott took the Nets as far as they should have gone the last two years before losing twice to superior teams in the N.B.A. finals, yet he is unemployed today.

Rick Carlisle, the N.B.A. coach of the year in 2002, led the Detroit Pistons to consecutive 50-victory campaigns before being dismissed after last season.</div>

Just means those coaches arent getting the jobs done...Scott was overrated...and New Orleans and Detroit were morons for getting rid of Carlisle and Silas...I personally dont think coaching standards are higher in the east...far from it...

It's a shame you don't know the full story behind the Rick Carisle firing.

It's a great thread Accord. It's a classic knee-jerk reaction in the East. Since the Bulls, over the last 5 years, there has not been a viable Eastern Conference team to win it all and the immediate future is not looking very good (maybe the Pacers have a shot). When the power swings back to the East, this will happen in the West. It is all cyclic. It is weird though.

Interesting stuff... I guess that's what happens when east teams watch west teams win it every year...

I just think that the East teams, after seeing their teams lose every year, are getting impatient, and are looking for new formulas without even waiting to see if the current ones work all the way. There are several coaches in the East who've parted with their gigs from the end of last season who could still be doing a decent job. I'd say most of them, in fact.

I know him and Dumars didnt get along and had philosophical differences..and how Dumars saw consecutive 50-win seasons as being complacent, and he didnt agree with Carlisle's structure and pace of the game...all I know is Rick Carlisle is an excellent coach, as is Larry Brown....I still think Carlisle could've worked there and been given some more time...
