You guys will see enough LeBron the whole weekend. He doesn't need to participate. LeBron has already made a name for himself, unlike others who had to enter to do so.

Of course J-Rich is going to try and win 3 in a row, he is in the contest after all. Form what I heard the NBA is trying to get James, but James was unsure. Mason still wants in, but if they let him in it goes against their cover up rule of 3 years or less.

It's order, no sense having 2 threads about the same topic, ya know?

Yeah, esp. something like this that is just a rumer.

What took place was a respoter asked Bron after the Celtic game that if he felt he could win the dunk contest.

    Bron said yes.

Bron isn't going to compete. He doesn't need to.

    Agreed.

The dunk trophy is not a bragging right anymore.

I hate having to look through 2 threads to grab a quote or to look something up, this is just to stay on topic and save time, that's all. It helps everybody out.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">In fact from the players perspective what do they get out of all these killer rating for the dunk contest? They do in fact need a much bigger piece of the pie.</div>

Respect. Vince shocked the world in the 2000 dunk contest and that is the root of his popularity and where his world famous super star status began to grow. If Vince never competed in the dunk contest, I do not think he would be as popular and well known as he is today.

LeBron should give the fans what they want, dunking a few times will not ruin his career [IMG]. If he was in the dunk contest he would almost be guaranteed to win, did you see that monster windmill he pulled off last night against the Celtics? That was just in the spur of the moment, imagine what he could do if he put his mind to it and actually came up with some sick dunk that the world has never seen, he obviously has the ability.

This makes me only respect LeBron more, although I didn't like what he had said about not being picked as an All-Star, it still doesn't change the fact that he's a good person. He continues to show his skills in games, where it's needed, not some competition. As to whether he'd win it I'm not sure, plus he wouldn't really have anything to prove, lots of people can dunk. It might've been nice to have his fans see what he can do, but we'll probably see more of that in the future, but in actual games. Very mature decision.

The dunk contest is a joke, the NBA just can't get this right at all.

Players like LeBron would not want to ruin his image by doing this, because everyone knows the best dunkers/all stars don't do it anymore.

Money talks, hello Mr. Stert and Nike.

    And that's a real shame.

Speaking of Nike, i'm surprised that they are not pushing LeBron to entire the dunk contest. If he won that, tons of people who otherwise not even be interested in buying the AZG's would at least give them a second look.

Well that can go both ways, sure kids would look up to Bron, but they already look up to him anways. It's middle America that you have to focus on, the people with money.

I don't know about anyone else, but the parks I play at, we stop what we are doing just to try some dunks until we are just too exhausted to jam.

If we were at the higher level though, it would seem very juvenile to be in a dunk contest. That's why they don't do that.

I'd rather see LeBron compete in the Skills competition rather than the dunk contest. We already knows that he is a good dunker. Why should he need to win a trophy for it?

I think that the NBA should have more events like the NHL does. I think that could be cool, you could put both the 3 point event and Dunk event in and add other things. What you think?
