Quick reported on Sports Radio 910 The Fan last night the pricipal players involved could be Rasheed Wallace, Nick Van Exel and Erick Dampier.
http://www.oregonlive.com/weblogs/blazersblog/ I'm glad I was smart enough not to get my hopes up. I knew that the Sheed trade rumors wouldn't end. Think this is a realistic trade for either/both teams?
I heard about this last night but wanted to wait for a link to mention it.The way Dampier is playing It's a good trade for the Blazers.Nick would be the point guard the Blazers need, this move helps Golden State purely to give them a better chance at a playoff spot.Richardson and Sheed could be a nice inside outside duo. With all that said,I doubt any trade happens with Rasheed.I refuse to believe he will be traded,It's something I need to see to believe.
I like this trade. Sheed/Richardson/Claxton could form a Jamison/Richardson/Arenas trio. Claxton gets more minutes, which would probably turn out to be a good thing for the Warriors. One thing I doubt about this is that whether Van Exel will be willing to go to Portland as almost no one will want to go there. If he does, the Blazers will get some leadership and Dampier will be the rebounding stronghold for the Blazers that Wallace never was.
wow, what a surprise, sheed rumours. now another team is involved, by the time the trade deadline comes, he'll be rumoured to go to half the teams in the L. like allnet said, ill believe it when i see it
I don't see this trade going down because there is, too much risk involved for both teams. Sheed and Dampier are both free agents after this year and there are no guarantees either of them would re-sign with their new teams. I'm almost positive Sheed bolts to the East Coast this summer and signs with the Knicks or 76ers. Sheed is most happy when he's in the East Coast, and at this point in his career it's a move I see him making. He's already had his monster pay day and should be concerned more about winning and being in a positive environment he can enjoy and thrive in. Sheed and Iverson or Sheed and Marbury would be a nice combo in the East.
Here's an update:
Quote:

More on NVE/Dampier rumor Brad Weinstein of the San Francisco Chronicle offers some contractual details on Nick Van Exel and Erick Dampier - two players rumored to be headed to Portland for Rasheed Wallace:
Dampier, whom the Warriors are pushing for All-Star consideration, can opt out of the last two years of his contract (worth about $17 million) and become a free agent after the season. He has maintained all season that he has not decided what he will do. Van Exel also can test the market this summer. He is making $10.9 million this season, and his contract includes an $11.8 million player option for 2004- 05 and a $12.9 million team option for 2005-06.
Tony Dutt, the agent for Van Exel, says "there is no question'' the Blazers and Warriors have talked trade, but he adds it's standard procedure for teams to be talking as the Feb. 19 trade deadline approaches.
http://www.oregonlive.com/weblogs/blazersblog/
All three players can be free agents next season. If both NVE and Dampier opt out, the Blazers get the better end of the deal. They cut their payroll enormously, and get a chance to develop their young players like Travis Outlaw and Qyntel Woods. Wallace was already going to go anyways, and the Warriors get to relieve their payroll as well.
wow, if dampier doesn't get content and keeps improving his game one day everyone'd say, "i'd trade sheed for damp straight up" just like everyone nowadays does on Griffin-Jefferson trade when they were rookies... and they also got Nick Van Exel... they send a trouble-maker packing and get two nice citizens in return, nice deal for the Blazers
When will it end for GS? They've lost Webber, Sprewell, Jamison, Vince Carter, and now Damp? GS has to get wins to keep Damp happy, and keep believing that they can make a playoff push.

It'll give him a chance to bloom, he'll be needed and used. I know he is here too, but look at it this way, the Blazers have virtually nothing and no one. They are pretty bad on both ends of the floor, so having the asset of NVE would be great. Also, he seems to prefer anywhere but the Warriors, he has no effort anymore.
Franchise3, are you telling me that losing Dampier wouldn't be important? Hell, you say he's overrated? To me, he's underrated.

Quoting cArMeLo15:

Franchise3, are you telling me that losing Dampier wouldn't be important? Hell, you say he's overrated? To me, he's underrated.
Losing Dampier would be important, but gaining Wallace is even more important. All Dampier has done to deserve all the hype is because he's having a double-double season, the first in his career. You bandwagoners never look at his previous seasons. You think he's good only because he's finally averaging 12 ppg? Wallace, on the other hand, is a proven superstar and one of the more consistent players in the Pacific. He will give the Warriors a much more powerful offensive threat than Dampier ever did. When Troy Murphy, who averaged last season virtually the same stats as Dampier this season, returns, the Warriors won't be losing much production. Instead, they get a steady 19 ppg and 8 rpg former all-star. Now what would you rather take? Go figure.
I dont think Sheed would resign wit GS...so it wouldnt be worth giving up Dampier, who's having a career year...
Dampier started getting hype because he was leading the league in rebounding for a while. He's not as good as Sheed, and I have no idea why people are saying that he is in the same class as Webber. I would love to see NVE in a Blazer uni, but not at the expense of Sheed. Nick would bring attitude and a strong desire to win. Damp would get boards, but we need a scorer, and Sheed is a better one.
TB76 that trade will help your team as well. Nothing wrong with getting a law-abiding citizen in Damp. You'll also get NVE to replace Jeff Mcinnis. Even better, you rid yourselves of Sheed.
Here's an update from NVE's perspective:
Quote:

GS rumor update Nick Van Exel, who says he's heard about the Portland rumors, told Brad Weinstein of sfgate.com he wants to play for one of the Texas teams:
All the teams are close to contenders, and just being close to home in Texas, I think that's what it all boils down to.
But Van Exel could be traded this season, opt out of his contract at season's end and then sign with the team of his choice. But is he willing to opt out of a contract that will guarantee him $11.8 mil next season?
Depends on where I'm at.
Which sounds like 'yes', if he's not traded to Dallas, San Antonio or Houston.
http://www.oregonlive.com/weblogs/blazersblog/ I strongly doubt that he'll go anywhere in Texas. Especially not Dallas. I believe that they were paying him $12.5 million last year, and I doubt they'd be able to clear anywhere near that amount of cap room without trading a more important player. Houston? They already have a solid veteran backup pg in Marc Jackson. San Antonio? I'm guessing that they have quite a bit on money to spend, but I don't see NVE fitting in there.
Letting Dampier go will hurt though. I never liked Rasheed Wallace. I don't really have a problem with his game. He's a great player. I just don't think he has the winning attitude. Getting T-ed and thrown out of games is just plain foolish. Yeah, he's much better this year. So sure, maybe it'll be good for the Warriors. Besides, we'll only be keeping him for one year anyways. After that, the Ws will have plenty cap room to make something happen. Although I hate the lakers, and wishes the worse onto Kobe... if the Warriors are able to land a Kobe as a result of this trade, I'm for it. I shall quickly revoke my curse on Kobe.
