<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trail_Blazer76:</div><div class="quote_post">You are the one being naive, this is a message board. You don't know much about law do you? There are many occasions in which lawyers "seek to destroy their opponent". I am not basing this on tv, go and sit in on some cases before you open your mouth again. I find it amusing that you assume every case is determined by a judge. The reason that our constitutional right for a JURY is so highly emphasized is because it is a better scenario for a defendant. If one lawyer completely annihilates another, the JURY will choose a verdict for the lawyer that won. Please explain to me why I should have tried to compromise with anyone in this debate. That is not what a message board is about.</div> My wife has a law degree from Georgetown, how do you like that? She has been practicing for 12 years. She also teaches law. I used to own a business creating courtroom graphics. I've been in more court cases that you have been in detention for being a smart mouth. So get down your high horse, because by now you should realize you look like a fool to most people reading this thread. Do you even know how many cases don't go to a jury? Do you realize how influential a judge is in jury cases? Naive upon naive, have you even seen a jury? Twelve people who don't want to be there and hate the lawyer who drags proceedings even more than the judge? I don't give a flying fart about why you'd want to compromise on the boards. I told you that in response to your "i can't wait to be a lawyer" idiocy and not even as advice, just to show you what an idiot you are throwing around concepts you don't even understand. Life, or some senior partner, will teach you that pretty quickly.

I strongly doubt that there is any lesson in life that YOU could teach me, and I am an adult, so stop trying to treat me otherwise. Are you aware of how many people steal, lie, evade taxes, and cheat in general? Does that make it okay? I was avoiding saying this, because it is personal, but maybe it can make you understand. My cousin was once arrested for selling weed. He spent months in jail, and most likely underwent all of the horrors (you know what I'm talking about) that take place there. His wife was pregnant with twins, and he missed their birth. His mother (my aunt) had died about a week before his arrest, and his sister (also my cousin) had been married about 5 days before his arrest. This was one of the most hectic weeks of my life, and his dealing only made it worse. I don't hate weed in particular, just drugs in general, and the pain that they cause families. Don't take this personally, but maybe now you see why I am so strongly against this. That's all I have to say.

This has been a great debate, let's not taint it with personal attacks. My 2 cents on the marijuana issue is somewhere in the middle. For the NBA I understand and support their efforts to ban substance abuse. The fact marijuana is illegal should be justification enough for them to not want it in the league. Comparing an NBA player to the average 9 to 5 worker isn't a valid point because an NBA player is under contract 24/7. Their work day does not end after a game, like the work day ends for most of us after we leave the office. Whether they realize it or not they are still bound to their contract and must abide by the league rules and contractual obligations. I view it similar to how some college campuses are "dry" and others allow alcohol on the premises. If the players have a problem with how the league wants to mandate and enforce the rules, then they should consider another employer. As for people who use marijuana, I don't have a problem with it or them. There is only a problem when a person abuses it or it impairs them from their responsibilities. I always viewed marijuana the same as I view alcohol usage. And I've always enjoyed this quote... "Why drink and drive, when you can smoke and fly?" The benefits of legalizing marijuana far outweigh the disadvantages of having it illegal. But that is another topic to debate.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">This has been a great debate, let's not taint it with personal attacks. </div> I agree... TB and Nasty were bringing up good points. As far as the NBA and marijuana, why would an NBA player want to use it in the first place. These guys are paid million of dollars to keep in tip top shape and play the game of basketball. If the players truley want to be the greatest... they know marijuana in no way is gunna help them. Do you think Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Ishiah Thomas, Jerry West every used marijuana during their playing prime? Of course not. As far as legalizing marijuana, I agree with shape. There are so many advantages to doing this. Goverment could place taxes on it is a great example (from a national point of view).

Look at Germany, drinking is legal at a younger age, so by the time they are older they do so responsibly. For the record, I do like Nasty, and won't hold a grudge against anyone @ JBB. I am just very adamant in my beliefs, and I don't back down.
hmmm...havnt read all of this thread, but my opinion: the nba should worry about something worth worrying about. a player should only be NOT smoking ganj, if its hurting their game. marijuana is the most mis-understood "drug" especially in the states. it hardly qualifies as a drug, because after chronic use, its barely even mind-altering. there is NO direct link to marijuana use and lathargie. if someone is already a lathargic person, then chronic weed puffing, can make it worse, but there are PLENTY of productive people in society including doctors and business professionals who smoke marijuana and it doesnt get in the way of their daily life. so players smoke weed...big deal

Don't keep that hatred man, let it go, there's no use keeping it down for yourself, have some friends, share it with them, and have a laugh together about it in the end, it's beautiful. yeah but believe me, it's no sarcasm, i'm truly happy that you're finally cool... correction: it's us and only us on this board that judge around, you judge people and I judge you, i'm the judge of a hell of a judge
people need to realize that often times, laws do not necessarily = ethics. ethics can be subjective. although growing weed is illegal, its an absolute FARCE that someone can get a jail sentance of only 5 yrs for attempting to kill someone, where growing weed, can land you life in jail. the u.s. "drug" laws are one of the most moronic displays of "justice" iv ever studied. non violent crimes such as marijuana growing for personal use, can land someone twice the jail time as going out into the street and bashing someone over the head with a baseball bat. i know im gonna take a lot of heat from the U.S. cru for saying this, but i honestly think that a lot of americans are brainwashed by their precious constitution. the government chooses to ignore certain constitutional rights when its convienient to them. lol, sorry i can go on about this forever, i did a whole essay on this last semester. back on topic...
I would just like to say this..I'm not talkin' down to anyone or tryin' to put anyone down...nor am I tryin' to judge anyone at all..I'm just trying to point out that not everything in life is as easy as black & white there are lots of gray areas and sometimes when you you're young it's hard to tell. Don't matter how smart ya are as a young cat, when you get older the world opens up and things make more sense, you experience more and you see more. I'm not saying anyones opinions are wrong but as you get older life teaches you more and you see things differently (most of the time anyway) and overall things become broader. It's easier for me to say these things to someone younger because I've been where they are and have lived those years while the flipside isn't the same. At anyrate,no disrespect meant to anyone by anything I said. Just speaking from experience.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trail_Blazer76:</div><div class="quote_post">Haha, please explain when I have ever said that their smoking weed was okay?
