Without getting back into this mudslinging contest, I just want to show appreciation to those who feel me on this topic. If it was a non issue then why would we have a thread on it... better yet, why would the NBA be adressing or... hell even better, why is their still debates at the national level about it. Not to bring in all my personal experiences and what, but I have no problem with marijuana users considering 90% of my friends use it, or have tried it. However these are NBA players, with thousands to millions of dollars. I don't think a crack down on a few time use is needed... but constantly getting caught, come on. Id like to say... if the NBA players are going to use marijuana, then keep it their bussiness. Some of these NBA players now a days (cough Damon Stoudamire) have real problems keeping stuff like this to themselves and are constantly getting caught.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AIFan:</div><div class="quote_post"> it's "taught" brah</div> He was mocking the poster who had initially made the mistake of using the word "taught" incorrectly in a sentence... To make a point about the topic... People say that why don't people penalize those guys who get drunk and drive home every night while those who smoke weed are penalized...well often times if that drunk is caught being drunk and disruptive to society then he will be penalized...just like if a person is caught high and being disruptive to society...the NBA as a business should have the right to come down on weed as they please...I have known kids who smoked weed in the locker room before and after football games, so I don't see how a man in the NBA couldn't find a way to get away with lighting up before a game...smoking weed can be a detriment to the team...if they are caught then they are suspended or fined...if they are suspended they hurt the team by not providing their playing services that the team is paying them for...if they are fined (or suspended as well) then the publicity coming with the punishment may cause some havoc in the locker room...

If it's not known that the use it... then it a non issue because no one talks about it. Honestly... I think David Stern really wouldnt make an issue about the topic if the players kept the bussiness to themselevs. Image is everything in sports, when it comes to marketing, sponsers and money... and I know David Stern does not want the NBA associated with, frankly, an illegal substance thats a big issue in the United States. Thats just my 2 cents.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trail_Blazer76:</div><div class="quote_post">congrats, you teached me something.</div> english is my second language, what's your excuse? but apart from all the silliness, one important point is that, in the past, the nba had a bad reputation and marihuana use was a big part of that. when david stern joined the league he was charged with creating a drug policy, and he succeded into making the league more marketable implementing those kind of changes. so it's no wonder than now, when there's a rash of players being caught (ha! another irregular verb) in the act, the league feels it has to act.

I pretty much agree with the points that Big Nasty says. I also smoke weed, and I all of a sudden a bad man? I personally think that the Nba should have no affiliation with weed. Unless a player comes baked to practice or games, there should be no problem. What they do at home is none of the Nba's buisness, it is the police, fbi's, ect. I don't see what's in this for the NBA. If I am the Nba, I say screw you. I bet a lot of the Nba's players smoke the dubies and why would the nba want to get a bad rep? Makes no sense to me.
