Shaq, Dawkins, Sir Charles, Nique, Kemp...Those guys can dunk the ball very forcefully through the rim...I would say Shaq has the most dominant dunks...He just shakes the arena.

Can't name just one. Shaq is the only one I've seen bring down one of the new, hydraulic hoops so he get's my vote as the #1. But Darryl Dawkins, Charles Barkley, Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkins, Tom Chambers, Kenyon Martin, Cedric Ceballos, JR Rider, and Amare Stoudemire, to name a few.

Tom Chambers? I wouldn't really consider him a big dunker but i gotta say dominique and daryl for dunkers they really paved the way for this gnereation's extreme dunkers such as vince and j-rich.

Definitely Wilt. Shaq has got the power to go with his mad dunking ability, but he is matched mywilt, wh0o hant, just po0weredc it home time after time. In fact, there si sone inst wehre Wilot was about to Dunk, aned as he slammmed it home, this guy tried to dunk it, so Wilt slowed down, and removed the guy's hadn drom the funk,a nd was like ' i don't wanna break hyour wrist' so he just moved his hand and unked aun hindered. that is sim;ly amazing. wow

JR Rider... damn what happened to that guy? I remember he never really got a shot at playing here in L.A. and I know he had a short stunt with the Nuggets, but I havent seen him since then.

Sorry, some tequila shots, some bacardi, a bunch of beer, and I don't know what else. [IMG]

I've sobered up a bit, and what I meant to say was basically that, when you're talking about power dunkers, you've gotta include Wilt, which a lot of people didn't do.

Wilt, in one of his many legendary stories, was about to dunk, when some little guy tried to block the shot. Apparently Wilt knew that he was gonna dunk with amazing power, and he actually used his off-hand on the play to move the other player's blocking hand. His justification after the play and game was that he didn't want to break the other player's wrist.

If you are worried about that, than obviously you've got some power on your dunks, which was the topic in the first place.

I guess he had too much baggage.

There are many stories about Wilt backin' off to keep from hurtin't people..one of the stories I always liked was when Wilt went to play in the Rucker tournament. His team was facing a team that had Connie Hawkins and Jackie Jackson on it. If no one doesn't know about Jackie Jackson,he is said to have had the greatest vertical leap and overall jumping ability of any basketball player ever,of course we have no way of knowing how high he could fly but I'm sure all the stories are at least partly true.

Anyway, during the game Connie Hawkins(who stood about 6'8 and was truly one of the most gifted players of his day or of any day for that matter)held his own against Wilt even managing to score a couple over him. Sometime over the course of the game Connie told Jackie that it would be a good idea to trap one of Wilt's fade away shots on the backboard. Jackie readily agreed.

One the next trip down,Wilt got the ball in the post and indeed took his fadeaway shot. Somehow Jackie burst around the player guarding him and took off from the free throw line(Connie Hawkins and many other streetballers of the day swear its the greatest show of leaping ability ever)and trapped Wilt's shot against the backboard. It was clear Wilt didn't like it at all as he glared at Jackie.

On the next ten trips down the floor,Wilt got the ball in the post and just powered thru and jammed it hard(Hawk said it was like thunder everytime)...Wilt ended up with 50 and his team won by 30.....

Darryl Dawkins for sure and Shaq, backboard breakers. But if I were to include a real great one, Nique, did you hear the sounds that'd happen whenever he dunked? The sound of the metal being pulled down along with the rim and the board. That was some sick stuff.

I am not a big fan of him but i guess i'd have to say Shaq...he has broken so many backboards in his career....also J.R Rider...MJ had some nice a@@ dunks but they werent really powerfull. So i guess overall i'd have to pick the big guy Shaq even though i dont like him!

Its obviously true that Dawkins broke a bunch of backboards, but i saw a video of an interview with him. He said that the reason he broke backboards was because he pulled down on the rims from the side. The old backboards that were used were flexible if you pulled on the front, but came away from the backboard and induced a shattering effect when bent sideways.

Still, he did have unbelievable power. But I'd say that Shaq bringing the whole housing down was a bigger display of power.
