<div class="quote_poster">Quoting starman85:</div><div class="quote_post">Its obviously true that Dawkins broke a bunch of backboards, but i saw a video of an interview with him. He said that the reason he broke backboards was because he pulled down on the rims from the side. The old backboards that were used were flexible if you pulled on the front, but came away from the backboard and induced a shattering effect when bent sideways. </div> Yea, I saw that interview too...he was intentionally trying to break backboards everytime he dunked...
Im going to have to say shaq...I watched an OLD video of about 99 season??..Super slams or something its called?...anyways...When shaq could get up and he was in shape...I swear he dunked it SOOOOOO hard and fast..i didnt even realize..all i heard was the rim snapping back lol...I replayed over and over about 5 times...I felt sorry for the little guy who tried to stop it...lol...OUCH... !!!..LOL!!
Shaq is the only person I've ever seen not just break the glass, but bring down the rim with it. Matter as fact, people could've been killed if they didn't move out the way. They mad the rims real strong after that. Twice in his rookie year, first time, the rim going down slowly, the second the most destructive dunk ever. Darvin Ham is a pretty powerful dunker too.
Stories of Shawn Kemp on the playground are legendary too, I've heard guys say that he dunked so hard on the rings that sparks would fly off as the ball went through.
how would that be possible? unless the ball had metallic parts. new generation power dunkers: amare and stromile swift. oh, and k-mart throws it down hard too.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sir Desmond:</div><div class="quote_post">Stories of Shawn Kemp on the playground are legendary too, I've heard guys say that he dunked so hard on the rings that sparks would fly off as the ball went through.</div> The only possible way that could happen is if they were playing streetball on courts that had goals with metal chain link nets and he dunked it so hard that the chain flew up with such force and contacted the rim in a way that it caused sparks, but even then the rim would have to be rusted or something, so it's HIGHLY unlikely regardless of the circumstances. So yeah, it's impossible to do.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Darvin Ham. He shattered a backboard in college, he dunks real hard, you even see the rim bent all the way down, and the backboard shaking. He's older now but still dunks with authority.
1) Shaq (easily the most powerful dunker this century) 2) Shawn Kemp (back when he was skinny of course) 3) Amare Stoudamire (when he'd get close to the rim, look out for a rim-rocking)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Laker_Fever_834:</div><div class="quote_post">3) Amare Stoudamire (when he'd get close to the rim, look out for a rim-rocking)</div> I'm sure the Kandi man had a good view when he was going down.
That thing is OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD... Anyway to get back on the thread I'd say The Reignman, Darryl & 'Nique
you guys are forgetting one of the most powerful big men, moses malone. but still darryl dawkins is #1 then malone, then shaq. Come on chocolate thunder snapped backboards.

Shaq is number 1 for sure, Amare Stoudemire slams it home all the time. Main Event from AND1 mixtape has a mean dunk too, he shattered a backboard and pulled down a ring.
