<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls are close to reaching a contract settlement with Jay Williams, recuperating from a motorcycle accident that has jeopardized his career. Bill Duffy, Williams' agent, said Thursday he expected the buyout to be finalized within the next few days. "We're looking at the 'T's getting crossed and the 'I's getting dotted," Duffy said. "We're obviously extremely grateful to [Bulls chairman] Jerry Reinsdorf. He has done something that he is not obligated to do, which basically is to give Jay quite a handsome settlement." The buyout was first reported by the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times. </div> More here
hmmm... i wonder if jay williams will veer be the same... the accident seemed pretty bad... well at least we have hinrich!!!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting franchise3:</div><div class="quote_post">Man I don't like that. Hope Jay recovers and prove the Bulls wrong for giving up on him.</div> We had the right to terminate his contract the day of the accident because he violated his contract. But we didnt. We gave him more than what we had to.
I think it's great. The Bulls aren't giving up on him, they are doing two things. #1, they're showing their respect for him and his situation by paying him a single cent, #2 they are making a good business decision cause if they don't handle it now, his salary is gonna count against the salary cap. I hope he comes back, but honestly, I think he'll be but a shell of his former self.
i'm glad j williams got injured. He deserved it. He shouldn't have had that bike in the first place .What kind of black person rides a motorcycle?

Indeed. Really a class act thing to do for Jay,classier even that they were payin' him up to this point. Not to sound negative, but I honestly don't think Jay gonna be able to be the player he was. A severed nerve in the leg will take it's toll. I wish him the best and hope he can regain his former level, but the odds are against him.

I hope he can get back on the court, even if it has to be as a backup for the rest of his career.

It's classy that he agreed to a buyout, but they were legally OBLIGATED to pay him. I'm not really impressed that they did what they were supposed to do. I feel bad for Jay, could have been a big part of the Bulls' future. I have a feeling that he'll be back.

He violated his contract by riding the motorcycle which was a clause written into his contract. The Bulls could have terminated his contract.
They were not legally binding to the contract due to a clause saying that he can't ride a motorcycle. This is a classy move indeed. But on the other hand, if they didn't pay him, the Bulls could have been considered a ruthless franchise. In the end, Bulls did the right thing.
It was classy for both sides. For the Bulls for paying him despite him violating the contract...and for Jay for agreeing to the buy-out knowing it will help the team.
