I was lookin over some of the Lakers history stats, and couldnt help but be amazed by Baylor's stats. I know it was a different time and like people say there wasn't as much talent, but damn.. check out these stat lines as a 6-5 Forward... Season G MPG FG% FT% 3PT% OFFR DEFR TOTR APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 1960-1961 73 42.9 .430 .783 .000 .00 .00 19.80 5.1 .00 .00 .00 3.82 34.8 1961-1962 48 44.4 .428 .754 .000 .00 .00 18.60 4.6 .00 .00 .00 3.23 38.3 1962-1963 80 42.1 .453 .837 .000 .00 .00 14.30 4.8 .00 .00 .00 2.83 34.0 some insane numbers... Jerry West and Elgin Baylor each averaged 30ppg a few years, starting it with Baylor at 38.3ppg and Jerry at 30.8. pretty fun looking up real old stats, check it out if anyones interested. The link is http://www.lakerstats.com/</div> Elgin was somethin' else...he is recognized as the first NBA player to take the game 'above the rim'..drivin' the lane and dunkin'..jumpin' thru the air for a twisting lay-up..he had an excellent mid-range jumper as well....he and Connie Hawkins are credited for the 'inventing' the above the rim type game....Elgin started it,Hawk took it and expanded it to point of some serious dunks unbelievable acrobatic moves in the lane....then after those came Dr.J,Money and 'Nique...
Why is his 3 pt % so high? Did he take only a few? I heard lots of stories about him, there were many comparisons of him and one my all time favorites. Skywalker, David Thompson. For an old school player and being such an awesome dunker, he sounds like he was real fun to watch. Can you tell me more about him Chukk? Seeing as you know most of the old school stuff.

Well,I'm not the foremost expert on Elgin Baylor...but I have seen abit of his footage and I can tell you he was like Jordan,'Nique and Doc (or should I say they were like him?)in the aspect that he was fearless when driving to the hoop..he would and could drive and score on anyone at anytime. It's a shame that he never won a title,I'm sure in alot of people's eyes it diminishes his legacy which is a shame. I'm sure that had there been widespread television exposure and ESPN back in the day his name would be as recognized as MJ or 'Nique or Doc..Elgin came of age during the dawn of Celt's empire and at the peak of Wilt hence he never won a championship or(as shocking as it seems with his numbers)a scoring title. Baylor is credited as saving the Laker's team. The team was on the verge of collapse until Elgin signed. The owner(s) stated that had Baylor not joined them the team would have been out of buisness. Many people still consider him the greatest forward ever.
