<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">Classic Oakman. You can always expect him to maintain locker room peace.</div> yeah, he's a good team player, he also called VC three seasons ago as a player who played like a little girl in the playoffs basically to get him going... did it get him going (getting two 50 pt games)! That's why he's one of MJ's best friend...
It's part of all sports that the rookie gets inaugurated in some way. These veteran players only do it because the same thing happened to them in their first year. I don't think most of the stuff is cruel, and I don't have much of a problem with it. It gives the guys something to laugh about.

Rookies that come in to the league can always expect things like these...maybe even worse than mentioned. Its their initiation and as long as its done in good fun then I don't see the harm in it. Unless its starts getting into something serious like high school football pranks like sodomizing with a broom handle, I don't feel sorry for the rookies. Its like a right of passage into the league and the rookies will look back on it and laugh later on....depending what the circumstances are. I have a question: What if the rookie is 30 years old and signed on as a free agent? Will they still give him the rookie treatment ie. Carrying bags, doing dumb stuff? It's kind of weird to see a grown @ss man do that stuff.
as long as its done in fun then there is no problem. i heard the rookies at memphis last year got their cars filled all the way with popcorn during practice one day, stuff like that is funny, its not like they can't afford to get it valeted!!

YUM! i'd never heard of vet's stuff like that before... if i were the rookie, i'd drive my car straight to the cinema
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting notMuchgame:</div><div class="quote_post">If you watch the NFL, then you know that describes Ryan Leaf's rookie year. They stole his credit card and charged a couple of thousand dollars on it for dinner... instead of taking it in fun (he had just recieved a $40+ million dollar contract), he got pissed off. He was never "accepted" as a teammate, stuggled on the field trying to do it alone, and is now considered one of the biggest bust in NFL history... </div> then the rest of the players were losers also... because they drove away a promising rookie, hurting the team in the process. when a hazing game gets in the way of someone's career or the team's performance, it's not funny anymore. it's not a fraternity where if you don't want to be hazed you have the option of not joining but you can still go to school. i think if someone doesn't want to participate the rest of the players should be mature enough to respect that.

If you follow football, you know that Ryan Leaf was never a likeable guy...He cursed off fans and the media when they said something he didn't like...the fact that he over reacted alienated him from his teammates...
yeah, i always thought leaf was a jerk. he brought everything that happened to him on to himself and he probably deserved worse. what kind of person has millions of $$$ thrown into his lap and then completely blows it.

Rookies should be hazed tastefully, if you can't take a little crap from your teammates how are you going to take critisizm when it comes from teammates coaches fans media etc.... we are going to haze our new softball players this year so if anyone has a good idea throw it my way.

Looks like alot of you guys never played college ball. Happens ALOT there too so its not just the NBA.
me personally, depending on what it is its like i said i wouldnt take it personal. now if it was something that was out of line, that would be different. but stuff like carrying bags and stuff, id laugh that off. that aint something to start swingin on somebody over. but now if they did something like i couldnt find a uniform part, or something that affected me playing the game, or just something disrespectful to me, then thats a different thing. but hey, im the type to always get cha back so it would be fun i guess p.s. out of line to me would be tryna tell ma girl i was with another girl and did whatever. thats when it would get serious but the lil stuff.....just brush it off and get em back

Just the other night, during the Lakers/Cavs game, Gary Payton was talking to Lebron, Taunting him, talking to him ever where he goes, obviously trying to get him off his game, it was pretty funny watching the veteran and the rookie exchange words.
ewww... yeah i hate gary payton... and his trash talking... i wish someone was as quickwitted as him and able to trashtalk back just as well... but then again, i have a lot more respect from players who don't especially when they are being tormented.
