February 2, 2004 -- A fuming Frank Williams wants answers. Or he wants out. Williams, Scott Layden's 2002 first-round choice, is out of Lenny Wilkens' rotation again. Erratic Moochie Norris, whom Isiah Thomas obtained in the Clarence Weatherspoon trade, is back in. After Saturday's victory over the Suns, Williams looked glassy-eyed as he spoke about the turn of events since Don Chaney. Williams vowed he'd speak to Wilkens yesterday. "It's time for explanation on what's going on," Williams said. "If no one's talking to you, you have no idea what's going on. You would like to know something." Yea, what a turn of events....Williams looked like he was beginning to turn the corner up until Marbuy got there..he'd be a solid addition to any other team...
he's a pretty good looking player who should have a future, but right now he's just a scrub pg who's averaged 13 min. a game this year. if he had established a reputation as a good player, he'd look a lot better asking for answers. in my mind though, he looks like a complete idiot because he hasn't established the credibility necessary to make demands from the management. if he's not careful, the only rep he'll establish around the nba is one as an unsatisfied moron.
He was doing great in the beginning of the season, but after the aquarization of Moochie Norris, Frank decreased his minutes. I couldn't agree more with Frank being mad here.
Yea its very understanding that Frank wants out. Before the Marbury trade i thought that by the end of the season Williams would have been the future for the Knicks at PG. I still dont understand the trade for Moochie Norris. In the end Frank will get traded! Lets just hope it doesnt come back to haunt us!!
Its pretty bad...going from being the future of the Knicks to the odd man out. I'm sure he'll land with another team, hopefully a team with a starting spot available.
i feel bad for the guy, but i'd feel worse for him if he weren't the person to announce the fact that he wasn't getting playing time. williams is asking for our pity and that's not the way to do it. i hope this experience will help him mature and understand the nature of the nba; every player is expendable, even the kid with the bright future.
I don't see why Wilkens would want to play Frank Williams. Stephon Marbury, with his recent play, looks like he got the point guard spot on lock for the next two seasons at least and it wouldn't be wise to start developing Williams now. Moochie, on the other hand, is one of the more popular players in the league and is an experienced veteran.
Frank has a ligitimate beef here, to some extent. Isiah hasn't necessarily been known as the greatest communicator as far as NBA gm's go. He ousted Don Chaney very unceremoniously, then began to turn the team upside down with his flurry of personnel moves. Prior to Isiah arriving in New York, Frank was coming along very nicely as the Knicks starting pg. I too would be quite interested to know why all of the sudden I was sitting at the end of the bench after putting up very solid starting numbers. Of course, Marbury arrived, that in itself would obviously decrease his PT greatly. But then Isiah goes out and acquires another PG to spell Marbury, which left Frank as the Knicks third option at the point. I like most of what Isiah has done so far, but I'm beginning to think that he needs a lot of work on his "people skills". You can't just come in to a job, mow down the previous blueprint, then expect everything to run smoothly.
