The Los Angeles Times reports that the Lakers are interested in Scott Williams, recently released by Phoenix. With Karl Malone expected out of the lineup until March, the Lakers are in the market for an experienced big man and are also said to be looking at vets Cherokee Parks and Tyrone Hill.

    I think Scott Williams would be a good pickup. He's from an older generation of bigmen; guys that weren't afraid to get in the paint to grab boards, putbacks, and get physical with their opponent. He doesn't need the ball at all on offense, so he'd be handy to have around even once the Lakers are fully healthy.

    Scott Williams also knows the Triangle Offense and is familiar with PJ. At the rate our players are getting hurt it makes sense to bring him on. At least it will end the Rodman talk. And if we sign Scott Williams, we should also sign another Williams named Walt. I've been pushing for this guy for a long time to get signed by the Lakers.

    I think Scott Williams would be a good pickup just because he's a good perimeter shooting big man...if I'm not mistaken, he also has had some experience in the triangle as a Bull...

    @shapecity

    I think that you're right about Walt. He's a great player and would fit perfect @LA. I hope this comes true and the Lakers get a decend bench. I hate it now cause my brother is a Kings fan and the Kings keep winning games even though some of their people are injuried. Its been bugging me for a while so lets get those Williams guys into LA.

    I'm still upset about Scott Williams falling on Malone's ankle even though it was an accident. And now Malone and Williams could possibly be on the same team? Very interesting. Just like what shapecity mentioned, he's very familiar with Phil Jackson's system, so I think once he signs, he'll be very comfortable with how they run their offense. I still believe that Walt Williams is a very effective player, plus we need decent outside shooters. Something the Lakers really lack. I'd like this move if it does happen. I think Cherokee Parks is washed up, a total has-been. An official journeyman. Tyrone Hill can still be a force on rebounds, and if he does team up with Slava off the bench to provide rebounds, then things would look alright.

    Laker_Fever,Scott Williams signed with Dallas on friday.

    I agree about Walt Williams,sad that he has not been signed by some NBA team.He is the same guy who started in the conference finals with Dirk being out and did a soild job.

    What's the big deal? Williams with Malone isn't the same as Rodman with Malone...

    Remember Greg Foster's throat slashing gesture to the Lakers while he was a Utah Jazz...didn't stop the Lakers from picking him up a couple of years later (albeit a filler in a trade)...At least Scott Williams did it by accident....

    well, its irrelevant now anyways...

    Ahh, I remember that. And that gesture to me is so unforgiven. But it wasn't like he was getting minutes to play. So that move they made was a waste of time and money.

    I just find it very strange. Knowing that the man that sidelined Malone for so long until March might be wearing Laker yellow just like him. Very ironic.

    But keep in mind, Malone himself eliminated the Lakers from the playoffs TWICE....Malone was probably the most hated player by Los Angeles fans...but when he decided to come here, it was all love [IMG]
