<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trail_Blazer76:</div><div class="quote_post">I stopped reading after I saw that Wilt was #7.</div> I agree. Thanks for posting the list though Nasty. There are a lot of things I disagree with. How do you have Rodman on there but no Shaq?
Wow Magic over Bird yet again. I'm glad to see Ewing getting some props. The Admiral is a lot lower then I would've expected him to be. I'm glad ol' Bill Russell got loads of recognition. It is a pity about Wilt though, he is truly one of the greatest, top 3 at least. Man Jerry West is so high, not something I would've expected, but then again I never watched him play.
Michael Jordan Bill Russell Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Oscar Robertson Magic Johnson Larry Bird Wilt Chamberlain For every one out there..I did not write this list..I just posted it because it is way different from every other list I've ever seen, and so flawed,it deserves to be crucified...I'm going to take the top 7 here and break it down into what I believe should be the top 5.... The first one I have no problems with because it's where I have him too. People may say Wilt deserved it but Jordan dominated in an era of great guards and did things no other guard had ever done before. Dominated defensively and offensively. Carried his team to 6 NBA titles. Led the league in scoring 10 times. Multiple time MVP. Rewrote the book on the shooting guard position. Mike #1. The second. Bill Russell. I disagree with this IMO. Wilt belongs here because of his sheer dominance in his day. He dominated over everyone in the League. He was like a man playing among boys. His sheer size and athletic ability put him head and shoulders above most athletes at the time. Had he played on better teams it's no telling how many titles he coulda won. He redefined his position and the game in general and was the harbinger of things to come, the forteller of the way the game was headed. Third. Bill Russell. The greatest winner EVER. No one will ever come close to his 11 titles in 13 seasons(almost 12 if he hadn't have gotten injured). He sacrificed individual accolades for the good of the team, doing what was needed to make his team the best. But having said that, his stats are still unreal. His rebounding alone gets him on this list, but add that with his defense, his more than capable offensive game and the fact that his team won SO much gets him HIGH on this list. Fourth. Oscar Robertson. Whoever said Oscar doesn't deserve to be in the top 5 or top 10 is so wrong it's not even funny. If you wanted to argue I think a valid case could be made for him at #1. A triple double averaged in 2 seasons(if rounded up it's 4 and very nearly 5),an all around guard before there was such a thing. He was a one man team for years, before he go to Milwaukee, and single handedly took his team to the play-offs many times. He was the best all-around player of his day and took the guard position to a level not seen until His Airness. Five. Magic. Magic was a new breed of player. A 6'9 point guard who could(in his day)play all 5 positions. An unequaled floor leader and an unequaled passer. He could rebound, scored and defend. Multiple time MVP and 5-time champ. Kareem was good but Magic was the heartbeat.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post"> Oscar Robertson shouldn't even be in the top 10, let alone the top 5. There are a lot of other terrible choices and placements on that list, it's such a joke.</div> Oscar Robertson was the original Magic Johnson-Jason Kidd-Lebron James...He had a season where he averaged <u>30.8 ppg, 12.5 rpg, and 11.4 apg</u> !! He had another year where he avg. 31.4 ppg, 9.9rpg, 11.0 apg..... For his career, he avg. about 26 ppg 9.5 apg, and 7.5 rpg... Those are astonishing numbers, I can't see why you don't think he is top 10 material....
Many peoples argue that Oscar could be number one. I don't agree but I understand the argument and see where they comin' from....can't mess wit Big O The only thing that alot of people hold against him was his attitude, and the way he carried himself sometimes. Other than that I think he's most def top 5 greatest ever.
Besides Michael at number one I have a tough time ranking these players in order of how great they were because each of them were so different and played in totally different eras. Would Wilt be as dominant now if he played instead of back then? Hell no. Its these reasons that make creating an accurate greatest player's list so challenging since there is no way you can compare Michael Jordan to Oscar Robertson. Larry Bird Magic Johnson Wilt Chamberlain Bill Russell Oscar Robertson Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Honestly, you could make a well rounded case that any of those players could be #2-#7.
It's very hard to come up with an objective top 50 list with so many great players involved. It's hard to weigh them against each other to see how they stack up especially when you compare careers as a whole.
