Since the acquisition of Stephon Marbury and others from the Suns, the Knicks have really started to look like a viable contender in the Eastern Conference.

Isiah Thomas has shaken up the Knicks organization and he looks like a genius right now. Already, he's orchestrated a firing and hiring of a coach and a blockbuster trade.

Will this team make the playoffs, and if so, how far are they capable of going? Here are the standings in the east as of 2/4/04.

    Atlantic
    New Jersey 26-20
    New York 23-27
    Boston 22-27
    Miami 21-28
    Philadelphia 20-29
    Washington 14-32
    Orlando 13-37

    Central
    Indiana 36-14
    Detroit 33-17
    Milwaukee 26-21
    New Orleans 26-22
    Toronto 22-24
    Cleveland 19-29
    Atlanta 15-34
    Chicago 13-36

This is the first thread I've ever started, so if it's horrible, give me a break.

the team will make the playoffs but I don't think they will be Eastern conference champs with the players they have. They will make the playoffs for the next 5 or so years but they won't win anything with the roster they have.

One can't judge the trade for only the 1st 10-15 games. I think a week after the allstar break the team will show its true colours about whether or not it is an elite team.

Another thing......I don't think a team is going anywhere with Van Horn starting......just my opinion.

Yea,I don't see them as the eastern champs but Playoff contenders. They have improved since getting Starbury and Lenny Wilkens.I think Isiah is a great GM but i would like him to cut some of the payroll because they are 40mil over the salary cap
    (i think).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Knicks are one of the 4 best teams in the East. Obviously, Indiana is leading the pack, Detroit has been good all season, Cleveland has come on strong lately, the Nets are on a 6 game winning streak, and the Sixers were impressive in their win over the Lakers, but I'd say that the best four teams are the following:
    1. Indiana Pacers
    2. Detroit Pistons
    3. Cleveland Cavaliers
    4. New York Knicks

The Cavaliers have been playing pretty good lately but you can't put them in the top 3 in the east for that.Where are the hornets?I know They are losing lately since B. diddy got injured but not even mentioned? And the Bucks?

    Cav:19W 30L
    Hornets:26W 23L
    Bucks:26W 22L

Are you serious??? You are going out on a huge ass limb thats going to break with you landing on your ass.

As much as I like Lebron....top 3 for the cavs is not right. Over the Nets??? You can't be serious....this is a joke right? I just looked on your favourite teams and the Cavs ain't one of them and your name isn't King James so I just dont' understand this....

Most recently I'd have to say:

    1/2. Pacers/Pistons
    3. Nets
    4. Knicks

    Cavs? Don't think so.
