    UNC recruit in legal trouble.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MEBANE, N.C. -- A North Carolina basketball recruit and the state's all-time leading scorer was arrested Wednesday on drug charges, Alamance County officials said.

Eastern Alamance High School's JamesOn Curry was among 49 students arrested in a sweep of the county's high schools, sheriff's office spokesman Randy Jones said.

Curry is charged with two counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; two counts of sale and delivery of marijuana; and two counts of possession and selling and delivering a controlled substance on school grounds.

Becky Shoffner, a spokeswoman for the Alamance-Burlington School System, said the crackdown followed growing concerns among high school principals about the presence of drugs on school property.</div>

    JamesOn Curry Arrested

JamesOn Curry, North Carolina all time leading scorer with 3300 points, going to UNC next season was arrested for selling drugs.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Curry, the state's all-time scoring leader, was arrested on 6 drug-related felony charges, according to Alamance County Sheriff's Department records.
"Curry was charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, two counts of sale and delivery of marijuana, and two counts of sale, possession, and delivery of a controlled substance on school grounds," said Deputy Randy Jones, the Public Information Officer for the Alamance County Sheriff?s Office. "The ultimate dispensation of his case will take into account prior record and totality of circumstance, but I am unable to comment specifically about the possible end results of the case.?

Curry's arrest was a part of a major drug sweep this morning by local authorities.

?The arrests made today were the culmination of a five month investigation by the Alamance County Sheriff?s Department, the District Attorney?s Office, and the Burlington and Graham Police Departments," Jones said. "The investigation was requested by the superintendent of the school system and came as a result of over three years of increasing requests from parents for such an investigation.

"At the beginning of the school year, undercover officers were placed in each school and have been gathering evidence since that time. The first arrests, of those no longer students or outside the school system, were made as early as five o?clock this morning, and the final arrests were made at approximately 8:30. The Alamance County Sheriff?s Office made 22 arrests out of 49 planned arrests throughout the operation. Whether all 49 were arrested cannot be confirmed at this time."

The 18-year-old Curry scored 47 points in a 93-72 win over Graham last night at Eastern Alamance High School.

"It?s very disturbing, but it?s surprising ? that?s probably the biggest thing," said UNC head coach Roy Williams. "I?m just learning everything about it just like you guys are. It happened today, so I don?t have enough information at this time. He does not play for me, he?s not under my watch.

"I do have certain thoughts and feelings that are going through my mind that are personal and will stay that way. It?s so new and no one has any great information right now and again he doesn?t play for me ? he?s not here. If there needs to be a decision made at some time, I?ll make that decision. If I do, he and his family will know about it first. And if I don?t need to make a decision, I won?t."

That's really rough. A shame that a guy with that kind of future would get tied up in criminal activities.

That is a tough break for this kid. I know Roy Williams doesn't put up with crap from his players. I would be surprised if this kid played for him next year if he is convicted.

This is a perfect example of a recurring theme these days. Players have all this potential then they screw it up by using drugs. Terribly sad.

JamesOn Curry: I had big expectations on him and Marvin Williams, the top two recruits for UNC next season. Looks like it's not gonna happen now.

I've always gotten a kick out of JamesOn Curry's name. It's not Jamison or James; it's JamesOn. Priceless, reminds me of Cookie Belcher and God Shammgod.

Anyway, you can feel bad for the kid all you want, but he got himself into the mess and only has his own dumb decision to thank for it. I don't feel bad for North Carolina either. Do they really suffer by losing one recruit? They're stacked as it is. Williams could go shopping for another top fifty recruit tomorrow.

It is a shame indeed to hear of this news. Everyone makes mistakes in life and JamesON might learn the hard way not to get involved in these sort of activities again. If he is convicted of felony charges I can't see roy allowing him to play here next year. I just hope this mess finds a way to clear itself out so Curry can play for UNC next year. By the way, Curry is a very talented recruit and it's not very easy to just "shop" for someone of his calibar, UNC has to prepare for the future. [IMG]

His name is a combination of his dads and uncles, James and Leon.

Curry will definately not play for UNC next year, or any college. I doubt he will graduate.

He is a ridiculous scorer. He averaged 33 as a soph, 40 this season.

Yeah, I know. We have Marvin Williams, PF, and JR Smith, SG, two top 20 recruits, but I heard about Marvin going pro. We also have Quentin Thomas, a top 100 recruit coming in, and then the class of 2005 we could bring in many top players.

But why would anyone do this? Have a free education, get to play at a prestigous school like UNC, and with luck have a pro career.

But not James-Leon, Jameson, or Jameseon? Why JamesOn? It's just another one of the many weird names in the NCAA.

Anyway, where have you been, STC? Did you get a new AIM SN or something? You should stop by more often.

    Hey, I didn't name him.

No, I didn't. The only time I am on the comp, like now, is when I have a free period in school.
