What's wrong with Brain Grant? This guy used to be a beast when he played for Sacramento. Ever since he got traded to portland, his play has been steadily declining. Even before his current injury, he struggled to post 10points and 10 rebounds. This was quite regular back in his hey day. Personally, I don't think he will ever get back to the level he was at. I'm a heat fan, and i'm actually hoping that the heat won't do that well this season. Even IF they do get into the playoffs, they prob won't get past the 1st round. It's better for this year to be the final rebuilding year, and in the process they will hopefully add a high lottery pick. They probably also should look to trade Grant and Jones. They're getting old right and I don't think their games fit that well with Butler, Odom and Wade. SAR is available and so is Sheed. These guys are better players than Jones or Grant.
I don't know about Brain Grant. Isn't that a porn star? J/K I think Brian has just fallen off in terms of talent. I think he is past his peak in terms of performance. He used to lead the NBA in rebounding(I think) but now his 'bounds have fallen off due to Odom and Haslem hitting more boards than a construction worker. I would not say he has fallen off at all but he seems like he belongs on a contender rather than a rebuilder. His skills would be much more appreciated.
I see Grant a lot like McDyess. Very powerful but like many people, excluding the Mailman, Karl Malone, like Mason have lost their strength due to age. Everybody does eventually. He was good yes, now he's just adequate, I don't even see why he's a starter. He'll be even worse eventually.

Mcdyess was an above the rim player in his prime, he was strong but Grant was a lot stronger. Grant seems to me like a "Grind it out" player. He would dive for loose balls and put in the effort to box out and grab boards. He had a consistent jumper from about 10 and in but I don't know if its there anymore.

Mcdyess was a above the rim/finese type of player. Once he got robbed of his athleticism, he rally struggled. Grant was more of a effort/hustle type player. He still does the same things he used to, but without the same results. Miami need to trade him for anyone they can get, provided the contract runs out this year. Someone like Mcdyess - their salaries match, but he is a free agent at the end of this year.
grant is playing out of position since he came to miami. he was supposed to be pj brown's replacement along zo, a power forward just as defense minded but a better scorer. grant is 6'9" and that's generous. much like kurt thomas, he plays his heart out but just can't compensate for size. on top of that, he hasn't had much help on the front court, other than anthony mason for one season (and now haslem, if he continues to play good). if you watch the games you'll see how many nights he's just spent from banging around in the paint. i respect grant a lot, because i see all the work he does that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. it'll happen to ben wallace too, just watch.
I agree with cubanballer; Grant is one of the hardest working guys in the NBA. He is constantly banging bodies with guy 4 to 5 inches taller than him and in some cases stronger than he is, but he still manages to give an all out effort on D. Just look at what he did to Yao Ming. Can't question his effort only his size.
Of course he sacrifices for his team and so on, but he's just not where he used to be, and is getting old. He isn't as good as Odom so he won't move back to the 4, so we need a "true" center by what you guys are saying.
Actually, i think Odom plays better at small forward. so if we get a true center, move odom to sf, then grant plays at pf. i'm thinking trade jones for a pg and change (jazz needs a sg, they are starting sasha pavlovic. who? exactly), move wade to sg where he belongs anyway. then sign dampier with the mid exemption and now we have grant-dampier-odom-wade-pg with caron, skip and haslem off the bench.
Imagine they traded Jones for Arroyo... I'd drool, I love Arroyo's game and he'll blossom into an all-star very very soon. It would be such a young but deadly backcourt with an experienced front court. While we're dreaming let's say Miami gets Shaq and KG!
i wouldn't call it dreaming... jazz have two very promising prospects at pg but nobody at sg. raul lopez is not going to develop behind arroyo. course they'll have to throw in other players and maybe a third team to make it work, but at the end of the day it would benefit both teams.
Wouldn't you call the Utah Jazz (a rebuilding team) trading a young potential all-star dreaming... I really don't think they'd trade him unless it would benefit the future of the Jazz.
arroyo is amazing, a great player and a homie, but i'm not ready to say he'll be an all star yet. the jazz has raul lopez, who has as much potential as arroyo. utah's system works well for pgs. what they really need is a shooter, that's why they got giricek. if they trade for jones, with harpring and kirilenko, they'l have three weapons on offense without giving up much of the playmaking. and jones will do a lot better if he's not the primary option.
Grant is still solid if we can find a big man to take pressure off of him....man a healthy Alonzo Mourning and Brian Grant would have been wonderful the year we first got BG, Mase and EJ. that team could have challenged the Lakers for the ring(s) if Zo never went down.

There are many good PGs in this league, and to say he will be an all-star very soon is pushing it in my opinion.
Just look at Arroyo's progress... last year he got the bench splinters just like the year before. Now look... 13 ppg 5 apg 1spg in pretty much is first year since the other ones he hardly played 13 mins max. Plus his FG% is very high for a PG which is very hard since they have to get rid of the ball really fast, especially when the shot clock is down. This kid has a lot of potential, I didnt' say he was going to be an all-star, I said he has the "potential" to become one.
