Grizzlies 99, Timberwolves 98 Boxscore Game Leaders - Grizzlies: Points - Pau Gasol (27) Rebounds - Pau Gasol (6) Assists - Jason Williams (12) Field Goal % (4 or more) - James Posey (4-4) T-Wolves: Points - Sam Cassell (34) Assists - Sam Cassell (11) Rebounds - Kevin Garnett (16) Field Goal % (4 or more) - Kevin Garnett (8-9) Final Three Minutes (play by play) This game could have easily gone in the Timberwolves' favor. With three minutes left Jason Williams tried to be a hero and jacked up three straight misses from three point territory. Although Williams' game was off, Gasol got the Grizzlies back into the game when he hit a right handed hook shot, wound up with a loose ball, then hit a left handed hook shot. With nineteen seconds left the Grizzlies were up by one, but the officials called a ghost foul on Jason Williams then the Grizzlies leading to two Cassell free throws that put the Grizzlies down one. With two seconds remaining, Shane Battier drove on Cassell and hit a clutch mid-range jumper to put the Grizzlies back on top. In the final two seconds, the Timberwolves found Mark Madsen two feet away from the basket with no one guarding him. However, Madsen missed the wideopen layup and the Grizzlies won. History Cassell tied Larry Bird's mark of seventy straight free-throws in this game. This put Cassell sixth on the all-time consecutive free-throws list. Unfortunately, Cassell missed his next free-throw as soon as he tied Bird.
All this crap about Madsen being a role player.. i dont think it is too much to ask for him to make a wide open layup... this guy is a joke
oh well i think madsen is the most inefficient player so i guess it isnt much of a surprise that he blew it...
lmao, that was hilarious. He was right there, no one in front of him, put it up, and the ball just rolled around and came out.
This was a fluke win for the Grizzlies. They have a new franchise record, thanks to Shane Battier and Mark Madsen. Why isn't Battier starting over Posey? He's more consistent and is a good shooter, maybe he's better as a bench player, or he's just one of the good players on the Grizz whom Hubie likes on the bench-Stro, Wells etc.
I still don't understand why people wan't Mark Madsen.. He is useless.. And in times like these.. Missing a wide open shot, or airing a free-throw.. Someone send him to the NBDL.. Or teach him something.. Cause he obviously can't do it.. And he can't dance either.. So someone tell him that..

Lets say that missed lay-up by Madsen was about right considering the way Cassell got the call with 13 seconds left when Jason Williams was no where near him. That had to be one of the worse calls I have seen this season. Posey is a very good defender, slasher and has been putting up great offensive numbers. Battier is a good player, prefect as a scoring spark off the bench. You people are also too hard on Madsen, every team needs a guy like him. Hussle guys like that are hard to find these days.

They had the opportunity but could not convert. There were also other bogus calls late in the game. The Grizzlies deserved this. Also, James Posey is the best player on the Grizzlies. Forget Gasol, because he plays no deffense. Posey has consistantly put up great stats and lead our team on defense. In my opinion, he's one of the five best defensive players in the league. If we moved him to the bench then there wouldn't be a strong defensive presence on offense.

I wasn't watching the game but from what Wave's 3 minuted play-by-play, it sounded like a fluke with JWill's crazy threes and Madsen's missed layup. Maybe it wasn't, but I had some facts to back it up. I guess that Minnesota had a huge run to pull close, didn't they? So if the Grizzlies were able to survive that, I'd credit luck more than skill. Posey, from what I saw of him with Houston, is very turnover prone, has no consistency in his offensive game, and is way overrated based solely on his defensive game. Battier appears to be a perfect fit for the Memphis offense and is perfect with Gasol.

He makes huge shots, plays great D, (look at Spee's stats for today) and the turnovers are around 1 a game. Posey has been the reason for the Grizz turnaround from last year!!
Great game. Just watched it. Grizz got out to a great start with Jason Williams running the show. I thought that he messed it up towards the end, but the Wolves just didnt have enough. The Grizz did me proud Great win.
Pau Gasol hit back to back big baskets which put the game back in the grizzlies hands. And I give much respect to Shane Battier because he was hardly in the game in the 4th so for him to come in right off the bench in a clutch situation & hit a big shot like that is pretty impressive. I think the t-wolves have to really start focusing on improving their 1st quarter play. They have a tendenacy to turn the ball over alot in the 1st quarter & their fg% is always horrible to start the game. Come playoff time if this continues it may cost them a chance to go deep in the playoffs.
I saw that game. The officiating was terrible. Cassell and Garnett were the beneficiaries of at least 5 of 6 calls that weren't even borderline fouls. Madsen missing at the end is just a little Karma. I must admit, I thought it was over (in the bad way) the second he caught the ball though.
