<div class="quote_poster">Quoting OgShowtime:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Reef will be able to move to the three like Wallace had, it's not his natural position, but he's a good enough athlete that I think it could work. D Miles is now the sixth man, make no mistake about that, Derek Anderson will be the starting SG. I like this lineup for Portland, with Stoudamire and Anderson in the backcourt, and Abdur-Rahim, Randolph and Ratliff up front. They also now have more depth with Davis and Miles coming off the bench.</div> I don't know about Reef at the three. I honestly would much rather have Miles starting there and Anderson at the two. Miles is a very athletic foward and he runs on the break like a gazelle which is something the Blazers will need after this trade. Reef has too much of a back to the basket, midrange shooting, rebounding kind of game. I think he would be quite ineffective at the three negating his real talents. Miles coming off the bench was not really working out with Cleveland so why would it work out for Portland? Davis off the bench is aight, but it remains to be seen how good Ratliff will be in the West. He could dominate the games in the East with his blocking ability but in the west....he could be the one getting dominated with all the height and talent.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">From the Hakws' point of view, this makes sense as well. This trade will work for them IF they let Wallace and Person leave after the season. That will clear up a lot of space and they can go after someone like Kobe. Although they did lose their Center but playoffs are out of reach anyway. As for the Blazers, Shareef will compensate Zach. He can play the SF position like Sheed.</div> I agree, but I have to ask the question: who wants their money? The Hawks now have next to nothing to build around, I think it's going to be very difficult to attract any top-flight free agents to a team without Abdur-Rahim. The Hawks are likley to end up like the post-MJ Bulls, a ton of cash and nobody to give it to. Bad move trading Reef, it's going to cost them in the offseason.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't like this trade for Portland. I understand Atlanta's move because they want to get rid of cap space but Portland has not really addressed any issues with their team. To make a trade after a team was finding their niche is just going to mix things up again for Maurice Cheeks. The Blazers acquired Abdur rahim but Randolph plays that position. They picked up Ratliff who dominated the EASTERN CONFERENCE in blocks but they have a reliable Dale Davis in the middle. Now they have Darius Miles at 2? Sorry but I thought 2 guards are supposed to be able to shoot. Are they just trying to overcrowd their roster with talent again? I wonder how Zach Randolph feels about this trade? Time will tell, but as of right now this trade looks pretty bad.</div> Shareef is like Antawn Jamison, can both play the small forward and power forward positions very well. Randolph is their franchise, they have said before they would build around him. Ratliff is effective in the paint by blocking shots, that won't change even by moving to the west. Dale Davis is pretty much a non-factor at the center spot for the Blazers. He also isn't happy and has asked for a trade Portland got 3 main things through this trade Added 3 good characters and losing 1 bad character Got Rasheed Wallace out Needed a center who can block shots Another scorer to help out Randolph Better image Blazers have added good talent again but This was all about moving Rasheed and making both parties happy with the situation. Wallace said he is happy with the trade, so everyone is happy within both franchises.

That is one of the reasons Wallace was allowed to be moved to the three in the first place. I think Ratliff's shotblocking ability will suffer going to the west. I just think he won't be able to cut it in a more talented conference. If Dale Davis does get traded then it would make more sense.

Ratliff's shot blocking ability will not change at all. He has that way of playing which makes him see the game so well to block shots. He is a natural shot blocker, doesn't matter what team or conference he plays in. He will continue to get around 3 blocks a game. It's the way he plays.
True, Reef can't shoot the three, but he can still shoot the jumper fairly well. I don't see this being a problem for Portland. BTW - I like your sig CourtVision, don't know if you've read it, but there's a great book on Darwin called "Darwin's Ghost". Check it out if you get the chance.

It looks good on paper but I just don't feel comfortable with it Portland. I feel like they are just crowding the roster with talented players....again.
I think this is an upgrade for Portland, they get SAR who is better than Rasheed, he doesnt bring the attitude problems either, Theo Ratliff who is an above average center, this Portland team could be strong in the second half.
Sorry, but I really don't agree with most of you guys. I really try to look at this objectively. I just don't see how this is a good trade for the hawks. As I see it, they've basically screwed themsevles over. Unless they're able to sign Kobe in the offseason, there isn't anyone they could add to their team to become competitive. As for Rasheed, from what I've read on ESPN insiders, there isn't ANY interest within the Hawks to resign him. So, basically, they've given away two pretty good players for nothing. I honestly think they would have been better off trading for draft picks. As for the Blazers, this deal is all about Paul Allen's willingness to spend money. Now they've got a huge payroll. Great for the fans. But, I believe it will yet again be a lost cause. But hey, can't blame them for trying. They really have got excellent players. But really, is it enough to go up against the TWolves? Lakers? Mavs? Kings? or the Spurs? I doubt it. Oh wells, the only thing this trade accomplishes is tilting the East/West power scale even more towards the West. It's all good, more power to the Weeesst Siiide!

It's very objective though, the author (Steve Jones) gives points that endorse, yet at the same time question certain theories laid forth my Darwin. The book is essentially an updated version of "The origin of species" written by Darwin. QUOTE: "Sorry, but I really don't agree with most of you guys. I really try to look at this objectively. I feel the same way about it from the Hawks perspective. True, they've cleared up tons of cap space, but who is going to want to be a Hawk? The only way I see this as a positive is if they can lock up Doc in the offseason (or sooner).
^^^ Well they're not going anywhere with Shareef so why not let him go, clear up some space and at least go for big name's after this season?
First- Shareef will start. You do not sit a player of Shareef's caliber on the bench. Second- Dumb move. Portland's at its best when Rasheed is covering up for Z-Bo's defense. Z-Bo cannot defend. What a coincidence. Neither can Abdur- Rahim. Can hardly wait to see them paired up together. "The Human Sieves," coming to PDX near you.
