As the trade deadline nears, the chances of Seattle making a deal are increasing by the hour. Guys like Brent Barry, Flip Murray and Vladimir Radmanovic are all valuable trade bait on a Sonics team that is lacking balance. As the deadline nears, feel free to post ANY rumours you hear involving Seattle and any of their players. I have a contact with access to information close to the team (for confidentiality purposes that is all I can say) who will hopefully keep me posted on what is being discussed, and in addition to that I will post anything else I hear or see around the place. I will get the ball rolling with two things I have heard. 1) The team is fielding offers for Brent Barry, and obviously there is quite some interest there. 2) The chances of a blockbuster are slim. Anyway use this thread to your advantage for the next week until the trade deadline!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Q Rich3:</div><div class="quote_post">where is it rumored Flip is moving to?</div> Would not have a clue. However, with his minimal wage he is the perfect trade bait to try and rid the team of Jerome James and Calvin Booth and their contracts.
I read that Toronto and Memphis are interested in Jerome James and that Memphis would be the most likely suitor. Im not sure what the Sonics are asking but if Murray is packaged with James I can see them getting someone pretty good.

A Seattle radio station has reported that the Sonics have held trade talks this week regarding a trade involving Brent Barry with Toronto, with a possible third team involved. That is all I have been told, but will keep it posted if anything else comes out.
More on Jerome: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jerome James, who can opt out of his contract this summer with the Seattle SuperSonics, is once again at the centre of rumoured deals. The 7-foot-1, 272-pound James would be an ideal fit for the Raptors, who play Seattle tonight, but Toronto appears to have nothing that would entice the slumping Sonics. A team that may be able sway the Sonics is the Memphis Grizzlies, who courted James two years ago. "You don't make a move just to patch up things,'' Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "It's a long-term plan here. It's a young team. We knew we would have some tough times. </div> <font size="1">Full Story courtesy of the Toronto Sun.</font>
Latest I have heard: Cleveland offered Ollie and a second rounder for Brent Barry. Of course the salaries don't match here, meaning Seattle would have to have taken McInnis on as well, which was allegedly refused. Dallas are also looking into Brent Barry. A proposed trade was Barry to Dallas, Finley to the Clippers and Chris Wilcox to Seattle.
I know for a fact the Sonics were close to trading for Shareef but the Hawks wanted Rashard Lewis which forced the Sonics to back out. Sonics do need a trade for a big man, Ray will not be happy if no trade goes down. The last thing you need is your superstar to be upset

I'm not sure how others view this, but I would consider involving Rashard in a deal for Reef, and turning the SF position over to Radmanovic. It would have to be the right dea however, but I feel Vlade could produce Lewis' numbers if given the time at the 3, where he is best suited.
If your the Sonics you do NOT make a deal just to make Ray Allen happy. You have this summer and the deadline enxt season to make additions to the team to create an atmosphere that Allen will like enough to re-sign here. Forcing a deal is ridiculous. The Barry/Finley/Wilcox deal would have to include more salary coming from Seattle and LA because Finley makes twice what Barry does and 4 times what Wilcox does.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A one-for-one swap involving Murray is out, but it may be appealing enough to convince another team to agree to take on a big man such as Calvin Booth, and the three years and $19 million left on his contract after this season. Is using Murray to erase a previous investment being equally short-sighted? The buzz among league's executives this season is that the Sonics have intriguing components and desirable perimeter personnel. But Seattle also has a gaping hole in the middle at power forward and center, and as one league personnel guru said, "You don't trade bigs for smalls. Not in this league." The Sonics sought to acquire Shareef Abdur-Rahim with a package of assets that included Radmanovic, Barry and a future draft pick. The Hawks opted to take Rasheed Wallace from Portland because the Blazers were willing to take Theo Ratliff. The other consideration is that interest and intrigue in Murray is not what it was back in November when everyone flipped out over Flip. He was pictured in Sports Illustrated, profiled in ESPN The Magazine and interviewed on TNT by Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. Coach Nate McMillan had just talked to Murray that day, suggesting ways to handle the attention. He didn't even know Murray was scheduled for a halftime interview until he flipped on the television.</div> <font size="1">Full Story courtesy of the Seattle PI.</font>
Latest: Barry and Booth to San Antonio for Malik Rose is apparently the current deal on the table, but is far from done. Chances of a trade are getting less likely by the hour.
Malik Rose is nice...but I don't know...is that about the worth amount of his salary or is it the worth amount of his talent???
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting anadagirlballer4strt:</div><div class="quote_post">Malik Rose is nice...but I don't know...is that about the worth amount of his salary or is it the worth amount of his talent??? </div> Rose's contract still has a few years to run, which is a major sticking point. Getting rid of Booth's contract would be a major plus, but I am not convinced that Malik Rose is adequate compensation for a guy of Brent's quality (both on and off the court).
Rose has not been very good this season, was pumped out of the rotation by Robert Horry and since then has not really recovered from an early season injury. However he could bring some much needed size and workman like power to your frontline.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He was a 6-foot-10 European player with a reputation as a 3-point marksman. Playing time was an issue. So was the position he was best suited to play when he was traded for a more proven post presence. This has nothing to do with Vladimir Radmanovic. Try Detlef Schrempf 15 years ago, when Dallas sent him to Indiana with a second-round draft pick at the 1989 trade deadline in exchange for 6-11 Herb Williams. Williams was serviceable. Schrempf became a star. Fifteen years later that deal hangs in the background with the deadline two days away, and Radmanovic one of the top trade possibilities for Seattle.</div> <font size="1">Full Story courtesy of the Seattle PI.</font>
