Which Grizzlie would you like to see shipped out before the trade deadline, and which Grizzlie do you think has the most value? I want to see Pau Gasol traded. It's not that he's not a good player. His intensity is just too inconsistant. One night he'll explode for twnety points and fifteen rebounds while helping the Grizzlies to a win, while other nights he'll shoot 2-12 and be a liability. He probably has some good trade value, and the Grizzlies could likely get a post presence for him. Gasol just isn't tough enough to help our team go far in the playoffs. As for best trade value, I believe that Shane Battier owns that honor. He may not get more than Gasol would get, but as far as getting the most for their money he'd be the most valuable Grizzlie. What GM doesn't love him? He has a good jumper, brings intensity every game, rebounds the ball, and does everything that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. I'd go as far as saying the Grizzlies could get a Nene type player in return.
I'd love to see Shane Battier go. He's good but is not good enough for the Memphis rotation and his contract might fetch the Grizz a much-needed big man.
You can't trade Gasol based on inconsistency. He's young, and that'll come in time. The man is only 23, and already he's a player that flirts with 20 and 10. You also can't trade Gasol based on what the team is going to do this year. Regardless of who they trade for (with the exception of Shaq) the Grizzlies are doing nothing (big) this year. This team is crazy young, and all about the future. Gasol is the best player on the team, and a cornerstone that they are building around. I don't know about you, but I'd rather keep Gasol and maybe Battier, and be a championship contender is 2 or 3 or 4 years, than make it to the second round now (which is doubtful anyway) and give away our future.
gasol does what he can for the win but i question swift... hes very incoestient and it kills him in the long run.... but the grizzlies wont trade him because his value to teh franchise is to much
I wouldn't let Gasol go, like stated above, he will only get better mentally over time. Right now he spends too much time making sad faces and trying to get calls that he knows damn well he'll never get at this point in his career. Battier, I think, will be the ultimate role player in the years to come. He plays with heart, can offer leadership, and he's a model citizen in the NBA. He shouldn't be going anywhere. While I don't want ANYONE to go, if there had to be one, it would be Stromile. The guy is an amazing athlete but just too inconsistant inside. He makes some screwball passes at times and it looks like he doesn't know how to control his jump height. With his inside hooks, it looks he's trying to jump out of the building when it's not always necessary. It ruins the arch of the shot and the ball ends up boucing out. The way I see it, Stro will be gone this summer, making room for Dampier since he has family close-by. That would be a perfect fit IMO.
I think the Grizzlies should also see what they can get for Pau Gasol. He reminds me a lot of Rony Seikaly with the lack of consistency. On one night Rony would get you 20 boards if he put his mind to it, but the following night he might only grab 5. Gasol would be more effective in the East because of his soft play and non-aggressive style for a big man. He still has a lot of trade value and I'm sure the Grizzlies could get a banger and possibly another shooter to round out their roster. The Warriors would be an idle canidate to trade with. I would consider Dampier and Chaney or Cliff for Gasol, the trade would benefit both teams considering their current rosters and agendas. The Warriors are in the process of rebuilding with a young athletic team, and Gasol would be a nice #2 option on offense behind J-Rich. Any trade the Grizzlies try pulling off should include trying to dump Michael Dickerson's contract.
Gasol has touch that Seikaly could only fantasize about. He was the foundation for the Grizzlie's rise and it would be short sighted to trade him now. He provides size, scoring and rebounding, some of the hardest commodities to find.
IMO the most tradable grizzly is Jason Williams, the guy can pass great but cant score. You got earl watson whos been a nice surprise and you could get a good SG for him probably.
Shane Battier, without a doubt. He showed some potential in his rookie season, but since than he's warmed the bench and rightfully so. I heard some talk prior to the deadline about a possible trade for Erick Dampier, I believe that trade would pay dividends in The Western Conference. With Golden State moving their small foward Mike Dunleavy to point guard, there may be a need at that postion if Dunleavy is successful in the new postion. So, perhaps Shane Battier and Lorenzen Wright in exchange for Erick Dampier, giving Memphis a solid center rotation with Dampier starting and Swift coming off the bench.
Isn't Dampier a free agent this year? I don't think the Grizz would be able to trade for him in the offseason. I don't think the Dunleavy at PG will last long either once Claxton comes back next season.
I don't believe Dampier is a free agent, He just has the option to opt out of his contract, which he's likely to do along with requesting more money. Much like Kobe's current contract situation in LA.
I think Pau Gasol as well. Pau should go, he is so so so inconsistent. The grizzlies need a good 2 gaurd and for pau i think they could get one like Stephen jackson or someone. Stro would fill in perfectly for Pau, the one thing that really makes me want to trade Pau Gasol is that hes a 7 footer and he cant manage to average 10 rebounds a game.
Pau Gasol for Stephen Jackson has to be the stupidest trade I've ever heard. Especially considering that the Grizzlies are loaded at the small forward/shooting guard position, that Jackson's contract ends at the end of the year, and Pau is locked down long term, and because the salaries don't match, you'd have to get rid of something else too. Though it is pretty hard to get rid of anything more valueable. Lesson #1: Don't trade your 22 year old star player when he's averaging 19 & 9 in the hardest division and conference in the world, playing on the third youngest team in the league. Run with that, don't trade it away.
I don't see why you want to change a team who is obviously on the rise. And I doubt that the grizz could get a 7 footer for Gasol. Making swift a starter on the team isn't a good solution either. He is too childish and doesn't have enough talent to cover the gap. And trading gasol for jackson is just plain nonsense. Anyway feel free to name a 7 footer tradable for gasol who can average 18-8 And don't forget that he is avg 31.6 mpg this season against 36 last season and almost delivering the same numbers.
