I don't think Vin is a bad guy, he's just been fighting some personal demons. Was it ever discovered whether or not he actually failed another test for alcohol? I havn't heard yet for sure...
I agree that Vin is a good guy. I really feel bad for him. I just don't want him to come to the Raptors thats all, its just not a good move. They do alcohol tests?? I heard of drug testing but this I haven't heard of
Well, because of his alcohol rehab they had been testing him on a regular basis to make sure he was obeying the guidelines. His contract was voidable if he relapsed, that was the reason the Celtics were able to release him without buying out his contract.
I First of all, I honestly don't think we should trade Pierce any where, it makes no sense to trade him straight up, might as well just keep the guy. And for Kobe, who knows maybe we will get him in the off season, It would be like Pierce and Walker again only better. And Kobe doesn't want to stay in L.A he hates it there, so the only logical ways off pissing the Lakers off is by joining their rivals, The Celtics. There are other alternatives though of course, like Rasheed Wallace , to end our rebounding troubles, as well as Kenyon Martin, Kobe isn't all thats going to be on the free agents list this year ya know. With this new salary cap space we should be able to pull off a few tricks. In Bakers case, I think he was truly starting to step up his game at the beginning ofthe season, he was doing real good, he got into shape and everything, and basically it was for nothing now.
Finally, they madethis move, however sad it may be was neccesary. Baker has become a distraction and he's taking up more cap space than Jir Welsch, Chris Mihm, and Mike James combined. Hopefully Baker can move on with his life and get back into the NBA, but for now he needs to work out his alcohol problems.
Maybe this will be the slap in the face that wakes this cat up. Motivated and in shape he an on-point balla...let's all hope and pray he can shake his demons and make a life for himself while he still got time.
it is a sad turn for Vin Baker, especially since the immense progress he made this season...I wish him the best of luck...
Vin Baker might be headed to the Knicks: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...8p-143514c.html
It's sad to see such a talented guy throw away his career and put his health in jeopardy due to alcohol.....I hope he gets it together. GOOD LUCK VIN!!!!!!!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BigMemo:</div><div class="quote_post">Celtics Terminate Baker's Contract So he's officially no longer the Celtics' problem. Shocking.</div> Maybe not, check this out "I am taking their asses to the wall and you can quote me on that." -- NBAPA executive director Billy Hunter, to ESPN's David Aldridge, on his strategy to restore F Vin Baker's contract with the Celtics. The union maintains Baker's substance-abuse problems are irrelevant to his ability to perform
Jiri Welsch? What has happened to him? Besides Zach Randolph he may have been the MIP this season, but in his last 5 games he's only averaging 8.8 ppg and is shooting 14 of 43. He's even struggling from the foul line where he's only 12 of 21. Any opinions on whats happened to him?
I'll miss Baker. You can tell from his beginning of the Season, his face, his career and his personality that he was a good guy. He tried, he just failed. Things like this are so difficult to battle. Mullin was very lucky to be able to fight it. Last I ever truly saw and know what Baker was, was the US Olympics, he was still good enough to still play there. I wish he still could play like that, however he can't, I'll still see him and remember him as that player, no matter what.
