This is the stupidest thing I've heard.

I believe Disney still owns ABC which would explain the "sanitizing" of a live broadcast. Its getting really scary when corporations (or Govt) decides whats best for us.

I could possibly understand the halftime entertainment being being "monitored" but still this is not right.

To paraphrase Peggy Bundy, "Be sure to thank Janet & Justin's 'Wardrobe malfunction', kids."

What difference does five seconds make if you're watching at home? I think it's lame, but I'm guessing if I didn't read about it, I'd never even notice.

I suppose that the only difference would be that if you chose to listen on the radio VS listening to the television audio. Hell, there is a 1 ? to 2 second delay between the TV in my bedroom and the one in the living room (one is regular cable and the other is digital). Besides that, the audio between TV and radio is frequently offset anyway. The five second delay is to help filter out the ?F?-Bombs, etc. that have come up more frequently with the new audio receiving technologies, and the placement of these (and the cameras) closer to the action.

You are welcome to argue whether or not a 5 second delay should be in there, but I have to agree with Pack. How does it take away from the exitement of the game? Aside from free-speech advocates, I think it takes nothing away from the game. I don't see where you will see a difference. I haven't noticed Al Michaels dropping a lot of F bombs lately.
