The agent for Warriors center Erick Dampier said Wednesday that his client has not made up his mind about whether he will exercise an opt-out clause in his contract at the end of the season. Dampier can give up the final two years of his contract worth approximately $17 million in the offseason and become a free agent. He signed a seven-year, $49 million contract after the 1999 season...</div>

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Van Exel wants in

Warriors point guard Nick Van Exel, the subject of various trade rumors and with an opt-out clause of his own at the end of the season, said before Wednesday's game with the Phoenix Suns that he doesn't want to be traded.

"I want to be here," said Van Exel, who had missed 17 games this season because of left knee injuries. "I never said I wanted to be traded. This is where I want to finish my contract."

Were Van Exel to opt out of his contract, he would give up $11.8 million for 2004-05. Van Exel's contract for the 2005-06 season -- worth $12.7 million -- is not guaranteed.

Van Exel has been dropping hints recently that he will not opt out at the end of the year. On Wednesday, he had this to say: "I'm not opting out. I'm pretty sure about that."</div>

Man, I sure hope Damp doesn't opt out. Man, if Murphy and Dampier were to play on the same floor, thats 24 ppg, and 22rpg right there!

I hope we will still have the chance to see this.

Murphy and Damp can never stay in sync with each other in terms of health.

[IMG] They did last year. Damp will opt out. He is just playing his cards for a trade or for a big contract at the end of the year. DONT BE FOOLED WARRIORS FANS! What makes this year different than the last 7 years? This is his year to cash in. That is the only reason why he is playing well. I loved Damp even when he was not playing hard because he had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. He always showed it at the beginning of the seasons, and teased us, but he got lazy and reverted back to his ways. I hope I am wrong, but if he does opt out, I will be REALLY NERVOUS to sign him to another contract. Ugh, I hope I am wrong. I hope we can resign him too.

I have also questioned Dampier's devotion to the Warriors. But to fairness to him, he has been plagued with injuries. All I know is that he has proven himself an ellite center in this league and works his ass off in the off season.

I think he will be traded before the deadline. If not, he's opting out at the end of the year.

I totally take my hat off to Damp for the work he has put out. He came back from the knee injury and has solidified himself as a legit center. I loved how he played against Wallace when they played the Piston on TNT. I hope the best for him in the future, but I do not think he will keep it up for the rest of his career. Again, I hope I am wrong. He is one of my favorite all time players and at the same time one of my all time disappointments. Joe Smith is the first.

Damp has played well this year and I give him credit for working hard. But its a little distressing to see him finally hustle in a contract/opt out year. Well, at least let's not see him talking about how he misses GS when he is traded. Buddy, to ensure that, just make it clear that you want to stay and not opt out.

As for Van Exel, the GSW are in a no lose situation. If he wants to stay great. If not, he opts out and thy get more salary cap relief.

No big trades are necessary now, just wait for Murph to come back; Foyle is just starting to come around.

As for Damp, well if he's leaving let's get some promising player in return, say Al Harrington or Nash (just dreaming)?

NVE has to go, you can get someone so great for him. So many teams are in need of some extra offensive help. Time and time again, I keep mentioning the Sixers and the Magic. Also the Pistons come into mind for this. They simply can't rely on Billups, Prince and Hamilton.

Adonal Foyle is really coming around. Much like Brian Cardinal is. He puts in so much effort. He's gonna be good sometime. Not the pinaccle of the elite, but rather someone who provides well for his team. Much like PJ Brown.

Dampier has been playing so well, I hate to see him go. If it's what he wants, he deserves to do as he pleases. He's worked hard and is good, plus he'll become better. Also many people would want his awesome offensive and defensive abilities, particularly the Magic since they seem to lack both, either that or the Mavericks. As for whom, I'm not sure, someone to at least help you to be able to win road games.

Haha, I would love to have Declerq back! I forgot who he dunked on, but man he had an awesome leaning 1 handed dunk back in the day. To be honest with you, I do not know much about Giricek. I also would not mind a first round draft pick from Orlando. How about we add Dunleavy in and you give us Gooden too?

I think they HAVE to trade Nick Van Exel. They can't afford to have him come back next year (that's $11 or $12 mil.), and he hasn't done much for the money he's getting either. If we trade him now, it won't hurt us this year because he's already pretty much out of the regular rotation, and we can either get a good player or cap relief. There are a number of teams that would love Van Exel and be willing to give up good players or expiring contracts for him.

I don't blame them.

The one player I see going is Dampier. With quality centers in the East as scarce as basketball games on TV in August, the Warriors could fetch someone worth a whole more than Damp for him.

I can see Philly trying to get him, so how about NVE and Dampier for Kenny Thomas, Derrick Coleman and Eric Snow? I like the sound of it.

The only player I like in that deal is Kenny Thomas.

Derrick Coleman is a seasoned vet who does all the dirty work and brings a lot of leadership to the floor. Snow is a reliable point guard who can dish the rock well and is a calming presence on the floor. I'd love it if Snow and Richardson play together.

Yeah, but Coleman and Snow are old... there's no point in trading for 2 old players (even if they can help us) IMO.

Snow is not really old, 30. What I was thinking was that if the Warriors were willing to trade for Cliff Robinson for some veteran leadership, why not get two more veterans. These two players are clutch and Damp is not that young, he's closing in on 30 as well. So, my trade would just be trading old veterans for more old veterans. If you get what I mean.
