Season A Disspointment If Lakers Don't Win It All? After signing Malone and Payton in the off-season a lot was expected of the Lakers going into this season. Injuries have been the downfall so far, can the Lakers recover and get homecourt advantage over the other top dogs in the west? more importantly would this season be considered a total dissapointment if Lakers don't win the NBA title? Even if you win over 50 games and get to at least the 2nd round? with so much expection, would it be embarassing to not claim the NBA championship? Just want your thoughts on this heading into the 2nd half of the season.
The season is always a disappointment for the Lakers if they don't win the title...the expections in L.A. are a lot higher than most teams... Are the Lakers in trouble? Yes, but its still too early to be concerned if you are a Laker fan. The Lakers haven't been healthy all year, yet they still have one of the better records in the league...Also, they have never been a regular season team anyways....They probably won't have home court in the playoffs except maybe in the first round, but nonetheless no team wants to face them... In short, the Lakers are currently down, but there is no doubt they are a very dangerous team....
Should we have it locked up? No, their are still other very dangerous teams out in the West. Dissapointing, yes, not because of what we went through to acquire Payton and Malone, but it's always dissapointing when the Lakers don't win the title. Like notMuchgame said, expectations in LA are set a lot higher than probably an team in the league. I'd say when we have everyone healthy by the playoffs, their is no doubt the Lakers are the most dangerous team out there. I'd like to see LA get some kind of home court advantage, but Lakers have shown in the past that they can win on the road in the playoffs, and with the veterans this team has, we should be able to do so.
Im not scared at all. The Lakers will win it all. Wont be easy but still the Lakers will gonna win it all. Yes you're right about the season. I was expecting no more than 15 loses but this aint happening. but I know when all players are back from injury list the Lakers wont loose a game easy. But when the playoffs begin every team should fear the Lakers. Lakers have the best playoff record ever. At least as I know
Nice sig. Too bad it applies to you. Really, I know everyone expected the Lakers to be so good in the beginning because they had two All Stars and two former All Stars, but realistically, I can't vouch for your intelligence if you thought they'd lose under 20 games this season. Certainly not a disappointment to me. Not like they haven't won enough titles, already.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">Certainly not a disappointment to me. Not like they haven't won enough titles, already.</div> Of course it's not a dissapointment to a non-Laker fan, and a Spurs fan on top of that. We have enough titles? So that means we sit back and say we don't need to win, we already have enough? Nah, the titles keep comin baby!
We were the best team in the league before we got hit with all the injuries. I have no reason to believe we wont be again once we get everyone back. Barring more injuries around playoff time, I believe we will win it all and if we dont then this season WILL be a big disappointment. GP and malone didnt take those huge paycuts for nothing.
Of course the season will be a dissappointment if the Lakers don't win it all. With four future Hall of Famers on this team, people before the season began said all these other teams should back away and give this team the title. But with the way this team has been playing, the Lakers need Malone back to make a serious run to the title. They lack strong efforts from the power forward position inside, and with the West's dominance coming from the PF position, Malone is key. When Malone comes back in March, and the Lakers continue to play healthy, and continue their dominance from November and December, they should be one of the last teams standing to win the title.
Yes, I think it'll definitely be a disappointment...with 4 future Hall-Of-Famers, you should definitely win the championship, especially when two of ur stars (Bryant and Malone) missed considerable time in the regular season...
No because 2 points where made at the beginning of the season: 1. The last 10 NBA Champions had either Robert Horry or Steve Kerr 2. When the Lakers had their All Stars in the late '90s they still got swept.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">Not sure, but I think Shaq missed more time than Kobe...</div> Jup, Shaq missed 15, Kobe 'only' 14 games...
The Lakers, the fans and the whole NBA need to stop getting so wrapped up in things like this. Anything can happen. Just look at Malone, Shaq and Kobe's injuries.

I don't see how it would be a dissapointment for non Laker fans. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting deestillballin:</div><div class="quote_post">No because 2 points where made at the beginning of the season: 1. Yeah, I'm sure Horry meant more to this team than Malone and Payton do now. 2. This is a different organization now, new players, new coach, new chemistry.
I am not worried. The Lakers were 18-3 before Malone got injured, and we are still holding tough. They always make a run during the postseason, so unless another good team knocks L.A. off, I can still see them piecing it together!

It's a lot of pressure, but they have four future HOFers.
There is a lot of pressure on the Lakers franchise. They are most definitely expected to win it all this year and I think their fans and the organization will be disappointed if they don't. They have four future Hall of Famers and great players at all the key positions. This team will be scary come playoff time without a doubt. I have learned that you can never count the Lakers out because some how, some way, they find a way to win.
